June 2012 Weddings

Weather worries for 6/9

For the past two weeks it's been showing Saturday as sunny and warm, with temperatures varying from 79 - 82 degrees. But now, on the freaking week of my wedding.... it's showing THIS!

64", with 13MPH winds and 20% chance of rain?!?

I'm slightly devastated... and entirely worried. For an outdoor wedding, this seems cold! Our wedding is carnival style, with booths and games and cotton candy and popcorn and all that fun stuff... but if it's cold, who's going to want to play games? I don't have an indoor alternative, we only have tents and canopies over everything...

Definitely starting to stress now.. Frown

  • Don't stress hun; my venue manager reminded me from day 1 that it's the one thing we can't control! Since we can't control it, I say make sure your Plan B is good to go in case it rains.

To be honest, I'm worried too but I'm trying not to stress about it too much :)

  • To put it in perspeective, there is only a 20% chance of rain. That's way less than 50/50.

Also, if guests know that it will be an outdoor event, they will bring approrpriate outerwear if it's chilly.

Your wedding will be amazing no matter what because it's YOURS. :-)

  • The weather predictions are just that. I wouldn't stress over it. Everyone will enjoy themselves.

I love the carnival idea, it sounds like fun :)
  • I agree I love the carnival idea too! People will dress appropriately and I have definitely been to carnivals during 'fall' or cooler weather and had a wonderful time! My forecast initially showed mid 80's and a 20% chance last week. Today its listed as 91 degree's and a 0% chance. My FI would definitely rather have your weather over ours.

  • Awww.. thank you everyone for your support! I really needed to hear that. It's so hard not to stress about it, but you're all so right -- it's out of my control, we have tents/canopies for the rain.

Thank you, thank you! I love this place!

  • My weather has changed from 75 to 64. Honestly I am okay with 64 at this point.... it really is not that cold. Especially if you are in Idaho. We are getting married in Utah and 2 weeks ago it snowed at our venue and the high was 49! That was cold... because we are getting married in a canyon I knew it would be cooler and the temp drops at night. I did rent heat laps and we will have fire pits going too.

64 is not bad.. and people can bring a sweater and be just fine.
  • 64* really isn't too cold, your guests could wear light jackets/cardigans and be comfortable. I think they have to put the 20% chance because they're always wrong anyway. :)

My friend got married in August and it poured the day before the wedding and was 59*..her wedding day was 81* and sunny.

  • What does the day before & following days weather say?  Sometimes I find that if I look to far in advance it can go the other way - like if it is saying rain on Saturday but Sunday is sunny - the wind can blow the rain through and you will end up with Sunday's weather.
I agree, 20% is not bad.  Hopefully you do have a back up plan - tent or indoor option just in case.
I don't want rain, but I am hoping it isn't too sunny.. I know odd...  My eyes are sensitive to the sun, so I don't want to be squinting in our pictures, plus the photos won't be as harsh as clear blue skies. LOL
Good luck, I hope it warms up just a tad and the rain stays away for you.
  • It seems it's getting worse.. Cry

I'm in that boat with you now Sgridley..  :(

First it looked like we were gonna beat the rain as it was supposed to stop on Friday and the good weather to start on Saturday.  Now, Saturday looks like thunderstorms and rain too!  Booooo!  Now we have to figure out a backup plan for pictures.
