NWR: Birds building nest on our wreath

This poor little bird has started building her nest on our wreath on our front door. We live in a small townhouse, so this is the door we always go in and out of. I love hearing her chirp outside and seeing her fly by our window but my FI says we need to take the wreath down because we take the risk of the eggs falling and breaking when we go in and out and the mother bird leaving. I feel awful because the little bird has put in such work to make her little nest! I thought about moving the wreath to our back door, but I don't know if she would follow it because we moved the whole thing.

Should we just take the wreath down?! Should I try to move the nest to a safe place? Anyone have bird experience?! Ha.

  • Could you move the wreath and hang in on the side of the house near the door so she could find it?
  • I just looked and there's not really anywhere to hang it.. Theback door isn't that far away, or there's some trees by the backdoor but more in view of the road so she might see it more?

  • Unfortunately, you need to just take it down. With my experience, they don't follow and just end up making a nest somewhere else. If you don't take it down, you run the risk of killing the babies or breaking the eggs. The birds will fall out of the nest and it's absolutely heart breaking if one dies. Just save yourself the heart ache!
