This makes me sick.   Apparently it's not enough to just recycle our electronics.  We need to ask what the company does with them.  I had no idea this happened.  Thanks for posting this.

I work a waste removal company and we get a lot of electronics sometimes.  We recently found out that the company we were sending our electronics to does this exactly.  Made me sick to hear about it.  We have since found a company that disposes of them properly.  It's so sad how common this is

Janeash, good for your company! I have mixed feelings about the CEO in this particular movie. If he really is clueless as to their computers being sent there, he needs to go back to his board, find the source of the problem and fix it. In that case, I feel sorry for him. If he's actling like he has no idea, he's scum.

The worst part about our situation is we contacted the company we were using and they flat out refused that they were disposing of them this way.  We had proof and testimonials that they were....someone had even done a TV exposee about the company!!  It was crazy!  

Either way, there was no way we were going to risk using them anymore.....just goes to show it always pays to background check the companies you do business with!!

Ugh - Well better late that never finding out. I can't stand it when people/companies try to deny something horrible when clear evidence is provided.

I can't watch the video right now but what's going on? We've only had to get rid of 1 laptop and we just threw it away

A certain recycling company that claims to recycle all of the computers people give them safely in the US is sending them all to Hong Kong. People are paid $8 a day to tear them apart bare handed. It's releasing toxic chemicals into their environment, causing cancer, undrinkable water, etc.

60 minutes secretly tracked one of their containers over there and took pictures/video. When they confronted the CEO with the evidence, he denied it.

And this is why I always double check where things I'm recycling actually end up.  Stuff like this unfortunately happens more often than many care to admit.
