  • Can you youtube the same dance and practice at home?

  • Well, cheers to you for wokring hard with your FI!  It's not the easiest thing for someone with two left feet or very little dance experience to accomplish.
But I'm with brittneyh4, can you tape it and watch it?  That's what we did.

That's too bad about your FMIL.  I know how much it sucks to have somebody who is over dramatic and is driving everyone crazy.

  • We are doing dance lessons too, but we started back in February. Its a lot harder than it looks. I would recommend managing your expectations to relieve some stress.

I'm sorry to hear this. We are taking dance lessons and having a great time. I agree with PP about managing your expectations.

ETA: Our dance instructor suggests not having a routine but getting comfortable with the moves so that it just flows naturally.

  • Didn't one of your posts say that you were doing a waltz fox trot and transitioning into swing with flips and aerials?  Perhaps you should have know quite some time ago that FI would be unable to complete these moves.  And think about it this way, if he's more focused on remembering how to execute the perfect dance moves, he'll be less focused on the fact that he's dancing his first dance with his new wife.

  • Aerials can be quite difficult to master.  I suggest watching Dirty Dancing for some good tips!

</div><div>Yes, that is our plan. We already have the swing part down with the aerials. For whatever reason it was the fox trot/ waltz part my FI was struggling with. However we practiced again today and actually got about half of the fox trot/ waltz part down pretty good. I was really impressed with his improvement. So glad we can see the whole dance coming together now. :) Yay! </div>

</div><div>Thank you- I think we had just been tired the last couple times we practiced. Today we had a blast and made leaps and bounds of progress! We were both so excited by the end of our lesson, laughing and feeling very confident about it- it was really nice. :)</div><div>
</div><div>Also so glad to see others that are taking lessons for their first dance. :) I'm sure your dance will be beautiful! :)

    </div>
  • Hmmm the fox trot is very simple. Especially compared to a swing with "aerials." it's a 4 step dance. Anyhow, you're right about everyone's first dances being beautiful since I'm sure the majority of us will be so elated to be dancing with our husbands regardless of any fancy moves. :

</div><div>That's exactly what I thought, I think that may be part of why I became a little frustrated. But tonight was awesome, I am really looking forward to our dance now. :)

Yeah, good luck with that. We're not doing anything fancy, just a normal slow dance, so that we can look into each other's eyes and enjoy the moment. You should have someone videotape your dance and then show us. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

  • We aren't doing any flips and tricks on the dance floor, I'm afraid that with my head full of hot air, I will float away. Even in my 75 lb gown. Humph.

Well clearly, your marriage isn't going to mean as much then... It's that first dance that sets the tone for your ENTIRE LIFE!!! :)
  • Well actually, according to Anne Hathaway i.e. Emma in Bride Wars, it introduces your couple style to the world...
  • I'm sorry, but as a dance- I can understand wanting to do flips and arials, I just don't suggest them in your wedding gown. IMHO

  • Holy Bride Wars.... that movie was a train wreck I couldn't help but watch.

I didn't know people really did this kind of dance for a first dance. I mean if it fits the couple that's awesome. I'd fall on my ass halfway through and probably cry. I'm not very coordinated, thank God FI has to lead!

</div><div>Our vision for our first dance is to reflect our personalities and love. We feel that the combination of the slower part with our song choice exemplifies the long awaited enduring love we have found in one another. This part is more intimate. The second part, the swing, depicts the fun, goofy part of us. We both love big band music and swing dancing, so we thought it would be a great way to liven up the atmosphere for our guests. Because we really wanted to do this, I will be changing out of my wedding gown into the dress I bought for our rehearsal dinner. It is an ivory tea length dress. After I will put my gown back on.

  • Just out of curiosity, is this how you speak in real life? A bunch of us did vlogs before you joined the board to get a feel for each others speech IRL so I'm curious.

Ours said the same thing. We have only specifically choreographed our entrance, one point for a certain move, and then the final dip!

I hope everyone's dances turn our wonderful!
