Price Shopping for Florists turns into a Contract?! (Vent--Long)

Has anyone else has this happen to them?

Our big day is June 2nd. Mind you, that is 16 days away. So far, just this week alone I have had three phone calls from florists calling me and asking "Am I still doing your wedding?".  The thing is, we shopped around last June for these vendors and we visited a few florists discussing pricing and checking for availability of our date.  We explained to each florist that we were simply looking around at this point and would get back with them within the week if we were interested in booking them.  So we chose one and booked them, signed the contract and have been in contact with them since.  Each and every one of the other florists we saw has called this week asking us about our contract.  
I'm sorry but is this typical??  We did not sign ANYTHING!  And we said we would be in touch if we were interested.  They call and make me feel as if I've done something wrong and ruined their schedule!  Not to mention, don't you think they should have called be BEFORE it is less than a month away?!

The pastor called with this same attitude and was very blunt and rude about it all.  He actually told me we would have to sign papers if we were interested (which we did not do).  I went back in my email and found the last email I had sent to him stating that I would discuss his requirements with FI and would let him know IF we would like to proceed.  

Am I crazy?  Does discussing pricing and requirements mean you've signed a contract somehow?  Sorry for this long vent but, really?!

  • This happened to us as well; not sure if it's typical though.

    Last year in August we set up appointments with 4 florists; we ended up only interviewing 2 - we hired the sencond one, one sucked (really bad) and the other two just never showed up. When I called them to find out if they wanted to re-schedule they both said they were very busy but would call me by then end of the week to set something else up - they never did.

    I got a call from one of these florists on 5/5/12 and the other on 5/9/12 asking for appointments to sign contracts etc, and if they were still doing our wedding - ummm, no.

  • I would tell the florists calling that you decided one a different florist but thank you for thinking of them. My guess is they don't have any weddings or anything booked during your weekend and want the extra business.
  • I made sure to e-mail all the vendors I met with and let them know that we went another way.  I wanted to try to avoid any unnecessary harassment.  I did have one florist get really upset with me though and accuse me of wasting her time.

  • I didn't have this with florists (yet) but I did have a limo company call me back 2 days later to tell me the limo that I put a deposit on was already booked at the time.  We discussed what they still had available and it wasn't what I wanted, so I thought that was the end of it.  They called me back THREE TIMES trying to get me into a different limo - they were either wayyyy too small or a Hummer, which I specifically said I did not want. 

    After the first response I just kept replying "We are not interested, please confirm that my credit card won't be charged."  Idiots.

  • Well I'm sorry you ladies have had the same pain, but I am glad I'm not alone!  They probably ARE just fishing for leads for unbooked dates.  They're just so darn rude and making me feel as if I've caused them problems/lost business!
