Yeah it'll be a while before I get it. I wanna make a dent in my student loans and FI is going to med school so once we are settled down and working I'll get it. Depending on when we have kids too. I want a Lexus suv like my moms when we have kids lol
  • Have you tried CarMax?  They ended up giving me the best deal when I sold my car to them (even better than the dealer I bought it from used and where all of its service had been performed).  The great thing is that they have a no haggle price - FI and I didn't feel too inclined to have to sell it outright - for us, it made more sense to go through them and not deal with all the skeeviness.

I also would recommend, if you haven't already, pricing your trucks out with Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and Edmunds (edmunds.com) as well.  KBB is kind of the gold standard, but Edmunds is more realistic.  This can be a helpful bargaining chip.  And like PP said, Autotrader is similar, and then you can print out  the price quote, bring it to any Auto Trader certified dealer and then as long as the care is in the condition you represented, they pay you that.  Just some other options!

Yah, I like to think that KBB is the "optimistic" version of what a car should cost...didn;t know about NADA, that might have been helpful to know a month ago! haha  I guess the moral of my story was that there is no harm in taking a little time to shop around to make sure whatever OP is selling is reasonable in comparison to the market value.  Although you want to sell it ASAP and get a new car, sometimes it pays to to check out what options you have (this is coming from the most impatient girl EVER!!)

  • I just got a new car back in March and man was that a headache!  I even have connections to a lot of car dealerships by knowing the GMs or owners but most of them didn't have what I want.  I think walking away was a good decision and I would have done the same.

Honestly, it sounds like the dealership was trying to make the most of the sale that they could.  With you paying cash they should have been able to give you a good deal on it because they could technically just write it off.

I didn't even think of that. It wouldn't be that hard to pocket the money and figure out the paperwork.

They weren't planning on selling the Impala. We were in the back checking out a different car and spotted it. They took it in on trade and were going to make it into a loaner car. They even put brand new snow tires on it today. You know they got a great deal and it is a car worth having if they are not going to sell it.

Exactly.  They may have also just got it and wanted to draw people in with it... ie a scam.  I've heard of dealerships getting cars, pricing them low, and then saying it was sold earlier and then they try to sell you a more expensive car.

  • I bought a new car in August. I wanted slightly used, FI said NO way, you never know how people treat their cars and why they traded it in so fast.  I said it's cheaper lol.  I also said I didnt have to have fully loaded to save money, FI said it's the last car we are buying for a long time so we are getting it fully loaded.  Granted, I LOVE my new car and all it's extras, I would never want to give it back.  FI negotiated and we left several times (with me in tears) and came back.  We had to have a car because mine completely died but I am so impatient and I hate dealing with salesmen.  With the financing rate they offered us (FI has ridiculously good credit), we actually came out better than getting a used car because that special rate wasn't available on any of the used cars.

I definitely agree with trading your car to carmax.  When buying from them, their prices can be a little steep but they will usually give you really good deal on buying yours from you!

[QUOTE]I will NEVER buy a car brand new. Literally as you are driving off the car lot they are losing value- major value. It is SO much smarter to buy a barely used car.

<div>I 1000000% agree. We will never buy a new car. Cars are not a good investment and I wouldn't waste money on buying a brand new one. Even if (when) FI makes tons of money and we don't have to worry about anything, we still wouldn't even consider it. </div>

Before him I had never been on a motorcylce or dirt bike of any kind. They scare the crap out of me... well, more the crazy people on the road.  But it's been fun riding with him!</div>

I LOVE Hondas! I wanted to get a Honda Civic but couldn't find one in my criteria around me. My parents are big Honda/Toyota & Lexus people. They only buy foreign and will pretty much only buy Lexus or Honda.
  • I hate going car shopping.

first: there are so many options etc...it's really hard to narrow it down and really decide what you want

second: most sales people (especially at bigger dealerships) are just there to make a sale and will do anything...and being young makes you look really impressionable, so they expect to take advantage of you

third: it cost money (ugh!) I hate spending money...but that's another story!

I just recently purchased a slightly used car, and traded in my old car. It all worked out in the end...I hope you find something soon!

Almost all the cars you see with very low miles and still pretty new are the leased cars. People lease them for a year or two and then trade them in for a newer model. Kind of like renting it. A lot of people recommend buying those because they don't have the high markup that the new ones do, but still have a warranty and stuff. And if I remember right, they won't take them back if something is wrong with them. :)
