June 2012 Weddings

Engagement Picture question

I am pretty sure I am moving my wedding to June from October and I havent done my engagement photos yet so I know I need to do them really soon. Will it matter that we will be dressed in cold weather clothes for a summer wedding? Or am I thinking to much out of the box?

Re: Engagement Picture question

  • You can have your pictures taken whenever, where ever, wearing whatever you want. I wanted mine taken this past summer, but wasn't able to, so we just got them done about a month ago. I wore a sweater and jeans as one outfit. Just because your wedding might be in the summer doesn't mean you need summery e-pics. Some girls say they like having e-pics done in a different season than their wedding, so that they end up having a variety of pictures with different surroundings (i.e. snow, fall leaves, beach, etc).

  • I agree with Sheila.  We were engaged in the winter, and we waited until the summer to get our e-pics done, but that is mainly because I wanted to be tan in them!  You can get them done whenever!

<div>Definitely this!  We had ours done in the summer, but at a completely different setting and feel that our wedding pictures will be.  For me it was important to do something different.  Having them taken in another season would be great.  If you're worried about icky weather, you could always do photos inside.  I've seen great ones taken in gorgeous hotel lobbies and really beautiful e-pics taken inside coffee shops.</div>
  • I don't think it matters at all. It might be nice to have some cold weather ones since all of your wedding pictures will be in the summer! A nice variety is always great.

  • I agree with others, get the pictures done whenever you want.

  • Can someone explain exactly what engagement pictures are for? Is this to get a picture to post in the newspaper? Everyone seems to get them these days, but I don't think any of my friends had this done back in the day when they were all getting married. Don't mean to hijack this-- just curious.

Some use them for the newspaper others use them for themselves/things for the wedding.  We really only got them because they were included in our package and we have no really good pics of us together.

  • I don't even think you need to have them done soon, unless you are wanting to use them for your STD's.

We took some at the beach already, but the second session we are waiting until after the holidays so we have a more winter look.  I'm not using any of them for STD's, so as long as they are ready before the wedding, I'm fine.

</div><div>I think the most important reason to have e-pics done is to get comfortable with the photographer and figure out what kind of shots you like, etc. I know I was a little nervous at first, but we got into a groove, and I think the wedding pics will be better because we've had a "practice run!" We're also using them for our STDs and invitations and maybe our table numbers or some other decorations...</div><div>
</div><div>To answer the OP, I agree with PPs that it's nice to get pics in different seasons. We got fall colours for our e-pics, which I was really excited about, and my sister, who is getting married in August, will have her e-pics done in December. Snowy pics can look really dramatic!

  • Thanks everyone!!! I like that idea of having different season pictures done!! I am getting epics done because of save the dates and invites and because I want them up at the wedding!!!!
  • I am using our e-pic/ family pics as Christmas presents this year. We had them done in July because it was a time when neither of us had to worry about work (we are both teachers) and I had the kids with me on a Saturday so we could meet with the photographer (she has a regular job) during the week. It was great to get pictures of us as a family and it had been a while since I was the one in front of the camera. It was also an opportunity to get to know our photographer and her style of posing and shooting pictures
