June 2012 Weddings

Themed tables

In trying to put together a fairy tale princess themed wedding, I am trying VERY hard not to lean toward the little girl/cheese factor, but to keep it tasteful and mature instead.  For the record, this isn't easy.  I'm also trying really, really hard to keep it all from leaning toward one fairy tale princess, because I'd rather my wedding not be remembered as "the Cinderella wedding," or something along those lines.  I want it to come across regal and ethereal, but not stuffy.

So far my theme ideas include having a ring bearer pillow with a glass slipper on it (specifically this one, clicky) a la Cinderella, and tons of ivy decor for the reception as a nod to Sleeping Beauty.

My latest idea is to incorporate the theme through the table numbers.  For instance, rather than have a square piece of cardstock with a number on it, cut it into the shape of an apple instead, for Snow White, or a seashell for The Little Mermaid, and put the numbers on those.  Then I can decorate the escort cards with the same apple/seashell/whatever picture to match up with the table!

My dilemma is that I'm having a hard time thinking up enough princesses and icons without going straight up Disney, and I want to keep the original fairy tales as much as possible.

My list so far includes:
- Snow White (apple)
- The Little Mermaid (seashell)
- Cinderella
- Sleeping Beauty (spindle?)
- The Beauty & the Beast
- The Princess and the Pea (maybe?)
- Rapunzel

I need about 10-12 princesses, or at least fairy tales, overall, as well as icons to go with them.  I'm still researching.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Do you think this will be too obscure for guests to understand?  And finally, does any of this seem at all tacky?
