First alteration appt - PIP

I had my first alteration appointment last week. I don't know if I lacked enthusiasm during this visit because of a stressful week or because it had been so long since I saw the dress but I felt like I didn't love it. I guess that it is normal for brides to have dress-regret?

I had initially thought of using a petticoat to give the dress more volume but when I tried it on in the alterations room the dress just seemed SO big to me. Below are pictures of me wearing the dress with and without the petticoat (back of dress is bustled). What do you think?

Also, with the petticoat the dress does not have to be hemmed... without it, it will; the lace at the bottom of the dress will have to be cut and sown on again.

WITH THE PETTICOAT

WITHOUT PETTICOAT

Sorry that the last three came out sideways... I am making the transition from PC to Mac and am still learning...

  • Love your dress!! I love how full it is with the petticoat. I was in the same position with you when it came to it not needing it to be hemmed.

Not to be bossy, but I am sure it may be pricey to hem lace but that is my personal stance.

It looks great either way, you were made for that dress!!

  • New Petticoats are bigger, can you squish it down? Just a suggestion I think it looks beautiful just the way it is. Remember your in a little room so it looks bigger than it is. Your venue will be a bigger space so it will look proportioned.

  • Your dress is beautiful!! I think the dress is great without the petticoat, but it's a personal opinion whether you would like it to have more fullness or not.

  • Either way it looks gorgeous!!
  • I think the dress looks beautiful and you look beautiful in it!

I'm not sure if it's just me or the pictures or what, but I can't tell a big difference in it with the petticoat and without. I think it would be so nice to not have to worry about having the dress hemmed!

Even with the 4" heels that I really don't want to have to wear, I'm still going to have to get my dress hemmed. At least mine is just organza!

Oh my gosh.... you look so gorgeous! Your dress is amazing!! I like it with the petticoat... but I agree with Kelsey, I can hardly tell the difference. I am wearing one in order to skip the shortening my dress alterations.

I had a little buyers remorse with my dress when I tried it on the first time since I chose it. I was worried.... but it must have been stress beause when I tried it on last month I fell in love all over again and didnt want to take it off!

    Seriously though... you look stunning!!

  • I honestly can't tell that much difference either. If it saves you from needing alterations, I would say use the petticoat. I think you look stunning in your dress. You have an amazing shape that your dress accentuates perfectly.

This! I couldn't really tell much of a difference. I would go with the petticoat so you don't need to get the dress hemmed. You look beautiful in the dress!
  • I think the dress is beautiful!

I too do not see a big difference with or without the petticoat. However, I know that in my dress I think it is a lot bigger when I look down at it vs. in pictures.

That dress is gorgeous and it looks great both ways. Which one are you more comfortable in? Try sitting, dancing, kneeling, bending over and anything else you can think of in it at your next fitting!
  • You look absolutely gorgeous.  I agree with the others- the difference is not apparent enough to have to spend money on alterations.  I think it's totally natural to have a little remorse, but seriously- that dress is perfect for you!!  You will be a beautiful bride.
  • Thank you everyone! The dress certainly felt bigger with the petticoat but yeah, I guess te difference isn't very noticeable in the pictures. I think this might be due to the fact that the dress is bustled and that in and of itself makes it look fuller even without the petticoat.

First, I love your dress it's so pretty! Second, with the petticoat on do you still have a train or is it bustled too? I would say both are beautiful and I can hardly tell the difference.
  • I can't really tell the difference. I think your dress is made for you though. You have a gorgeous silouette & the first thing i thought when i saw it was cinderella (no lie). You will have to post wedding pictures after so we can see more.
