June 2012 Weddings

Are these colors tacky?

Hi! I rarely post on here, I mostly lurk, but I have a question about my June 16, 2012 wedding and you ladies seem like the perfect people to answer it. :)

I am in the process of putting down a deposit on rental items for my wedding.  There is only one rental place in the town I am getting married in, and everyone advised we put down a deposit and sign a contract very early.  So, in order to put down the deposit, I need to have an idea of what I want to rent (including colors, linens, etc.) so she could come up with an approximate price.

Ever since we got engaged, I thought I wanted a fuchsia and white wedding, with lighter pink accents.  I know we are going to have white chair covers and white floor-length tablecloths, but I am stuck about whether or not to do fuchsia table runners.  Will the fuchsia on the white look tacky?  Should I just stick with brighter fuchsia flowers and leave the tablecloths plain white, or should I have pale pink table runners?  The main reason this is bugging me so much right now (even though I know it doesn't really matter much at this point) is because my mom says it will be tacky.  And honestly, I don't have the best taste and I don't want it to look like a little girl's birthday party.

Thanks in advance for your help, and I'm sorry this is so long! :)

  • i don't think the fuschia and white would look tacky at all.  i think it would be vibrant!  can they show you a couple of mock-up tables so you can see for yourself?  (i am such a visual person!)  also, what about alternating tables with pale pink and fuschia so they aren't all the same?  let us know what you pick!

  • I agree with TeamMoriarty, I think it will be quite brilliant.  I will say that if you REALLY want the fuschia to pop though, you're best off using at least a little bit of black to line it.  I also think adding the black will allow it to appeal a little bit more to your male guests.  However, if you're not into using black at all, I think it will be fine with white.

I do agree that you should ask for a mock-up of what you're interested in; you should always have an idea of how they are going to make it look before you're locked in.

  • i am doing black & fuscia, dark with bright, it won't be tacky but white with fuscia will be very very bright. If you can get black maybe go with that? if you aren't against black, because it will make the fuscia stand out a lot more. Most rental places can also do the mockups like pp suggested.

  • I love the idea of adding black to it! I think it could turn out wonderfully

I think if you did the white tablecloth with the fuschia runner, you should stay away from too much pink in your centerpieces. I would do white flowers with pink accents. (If you are doing flowers.)

I am actually in this same boat. I am doing fuschia, tangerine orange and white. I can't decide if I should add more color with the cloths if I am doing colored flowers. I think I won't....

Good luck, let us know what you decide. I would have them set it up for you, for sure!

  • We're date twins and color twins! I was wondering the same thing and was going to post about it. I think the pink and white will look really nice, but i'm worried about it being a little girls bday party too. I personally wouldnt want to have black accents on the tables. My reception place doesnt have fuschia napkins or chair bows so i think we're either going to do white or light pink and then have fuschia flowers. That way the pink on the tables wont be too prink but the flowers will still be the color i want. I think if my place had fuschia table runners I would do it.
    Good luck deciding!

  • You might want an accent color to tone down because it might end up being very bright
  • Thanks for all of the responses!

The reason why I was kind of set on white tablecloths and white chair covers is because they are the least expensive.  I am from a small area, and they already have enough white tablecloths and things and wouldn't have to special order them, so they are cheaper to rent from this company.  I may be able to get black tablecloths, but I will still have white chair covers with white sashes, and I don't know how that will look?

Does anyone have any suggestions if I decide to stay with white tablecloths and chair covers?  Now I am thinking about leaving out the table runners altogether and just having bright flowers in my centerpieces..
  • I think black tablecloths, white chair covers, and fuschia table runners would look quite nice, and very bold.

If you decide to stay with the white tablecloths, I would say to perhaps only do fuschia runners on every other table, and maybe have white flower centerpieces on the tables with the runners, and pink centerpieces on the tables without.  It will still create a striking pattern, but won't be quite so bright.  it may also save you money, only having half the table runners, though I don't know if a florst would charge more two have two different types of centerpieces.

I love your ideas! :) This helps a lot. Thank you!
  • We are date twins too!

I think White and Fuchsia with pink accents would be lovely. Go for the white table cloth and chairs it will make the pink flowers/decorations really pop.

    Happy planning!
