Good Computer?

My computer died. I need to get a new one, what is the best computer to buy, that is cheap. I would love to get a mac, but I cannot afford it.

Re: Good Computer?

  • Try a mini book, like an Asus.
  • How good do those work?

Do you use your computer for anything other than standard office applications? I just bought my new laptop from HP (it's my 2nd HP, but the laptop that just died on me was a Sony Vaio).

  • I use it for the standard office stuff, and thn I use All the Smart board technology on it for teaching, and I also stream Music and Videos for teaching.

Then you don't really need too much power. I customized mine through HP and went with more RAM to get better processing speed. The link I provided (Click) is a pretty affordable, standard laptop with free upgrading RAM and HD space, which is a pretty good deal. HTH!

  • They are one of the more reliable brands, for sure.
  • You can't go wrong with a Mac. They're a little pricey but totally worth it
  • I have a Lenovo T61 and it's a tank.  I am far from gentle with computers (not on purpose!) but this one has survived so well.  I even spilled iced coffee into the keyboard and it didn't die!

  • I know Macs aren't cheap, but they're SO worth it. They WON'T die. I'm getting one the second we get money and my Toshiba starts showing signs of "slowing down".

  • Honestly put in the extra money and get a Mac. You WON'T regret it. Fiance said the same thing about the cost of Macs but it is pointless to keep buying $500 laptops that die in a year or two. I will NEVER go back to PC. ;)

  • For the PC route, I'd go with an HP.  I'm getting a new one in a few months since my current laptop is nearing it's last leg.

  • Thanks ladies,

FI had 2 laptops ruined from his deployment. I convinced him to switch to Macs. We now own an iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro lol. Needless to say we'll never go back to PC
