Dressing the groom! Help!

So we found a photographer in Washington to do an engagement shoot while we are there. We have even picked out two locations...okay one and a half...for the photos.
One place is going to be a park called Whatcom Falls Park. I found pictures of this bridge everytime I did a search for Bellingham, WA. I saved a couple and showed them to FI and he's all oh yeah that's Whatcom. So I was like wanna do photos there? He's all yeah that would be fun. So for the photos there I want to have a long ethereal dress and kinda make the photos dream like. I told FI what I want to wear and asked what he wanted to wear. He said Dickies.
Dickies.
Dickies?
Ugh...how is that dream like? Boys.
So, I'm wondering if any of you ladies have any ideas of what to have him wear?
My dress will be like this...well this is my inspiration..I'll make a few changes:

only in a lighter color...maybe yellow, pink, blue, or green? just depends on what the fabric store has.
This is the area we will be in:

Re: Dressing the groom! Help!

  • It sounds like you want him to wear a suit and tie.

I personally like the more casual E-pics (jeans and a nice top), but I know you are planning on having several different shoots so maybe you are looking for a different vibe for each.  Maybe put him in slacks with a dress shirt and tie and forgo the jacket.  Ask him what he'd be comfortable in though.
  • I honestly don't think dickies are bad. To me they look practically like dockers. If they are new then of course they will be stiff but if he already has a pair I don't think they are bad.

I agree with Jul it seems like you want him to be formal. Why not just tell him that. I honestly don't know what "dream like" attire is. So it's safe to say your FI doesn't since guys are not into themes and clothing. If what you are looking for is what Jul suggested I would do that or maybe forgo the tie and add a vest. I would go for light colors as well.

  • No not that formal! Although that could be really cute. I'm just mostly concerned that it'll look weird if I'm in a full-length dress and he is in shorts.
  • I guess since I don't know what dream like theme is I can't give you suggestions. Have you asked your FI what type of E-pics he would like?

Yep! His response is always: "whatever you want." The look is hard to explain. Ethereal would be another way. I just want it to look like we are in a dream world.

I think if you're in a full-length dress, then him not being as dressy will look weird.  I guess I'm not quite sure where you're looking to go with the look for this shoot.  I'm with DodgersBride that I don't understand the whole "dreamy" feel.

Do you think if he wore dickie pants instead of shorts it would look better with a dress? That's what I'm thinking...and he can be barefoot in the water to keep cool...
  • I don't see anything wrong with Dickies.  Maybe khaki Dickies with a white dress shirt would be nice.
  • What if he wore nice khakis with a white long sleeve button up...
He could roll up the sleeves and have the top button undone, so a little more casual.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest! This looks nice and put together, but still not dressy. I envision this outfit when I think dream like, when I see your dress inspiration, and from what I see of the setting! I think it would be perfect!

I agree that long khakis and a white shirt would look nice.  When I see they pics of your location and your dress the old Brittany Spears "Fantasy" commercial comes to mind when you say you are going for dreamline.  Although what the guy in that commercial is wearing probably wont help you!

<div>That's what I proposed to him last night. He said he would think about it. I told him he could go barefoot and even roll the pants a bit. He started to complain and then I reminded him that when we met he said that his wedding day would be the only day he would willingly wear pants and I'm letting him wear shorts. Plus its for less than two hours. So we will see....</div>
