Food is Expensive :(

Just got my reception esitmate, and I'm not liking the number.  Unfourtunately, it is a destination wedding with set caterers and we really don't have much of a chance to negotiate costs.

I'm noticing people are picking the more expensive meal for us too lol. It's less than a dollar more so it's not a huge deal. We did plated dishes because it ended up being cheaper than buffet and we both prefer plated.

Yeah the buffet was cheaper for us, but I didn't really consider the 20% service charge and 7.5% tax.  Still, it looks like the biggest cost is going to be beverages, and I thought we were being cheap!

Food is almost always the most expensive part of the wedding; for us, it'll be nearly 50% of our entire budget, which isn't small - and we picked some of the cheapest meals on the menu!

We almost did a dry reception to save money. I wish we were but my mom said people expect alcohol at weddings and I don't think it'll be a huge expense since we're serving a limited bar

the buffet and the bar is our hugest expense too. We have to use the catering service and thier bartenders and alchol where we are getting married too.  We are doing a keg, bottles of wine and champagne, limited mixed alcohol drinks. It is a huge expense. UHHHH
