Buying Flowers Online. Also, am I forgetting something?

Morning Ladies,

We're thinking of purchasing our wedding flowers online. I'm a bit leery, but have looked at reviews and have opted to go with www.flowerwholesale.ca as they're based out of Canada. Has anyone ever bought flowers online before? Were you satisfied? I've read reviews and was feeling confident, but now I'm getting a bit more worried and I'll be placing to order soon (less fees that way). We're using baby's breath and a bit of hydrangea so I think we've chosen varieties that are a little bit heartier to survive the trip but I'm still so nervous about getting them here. We've opted to go with online because it cuts our costs from about $900 to $300 (and that's DIYing it!!) because the florist wanted $3 per stem of baby's breath, whereas I get there for approx $1 each online. I think we'll be ok, I'm just panicking about it this morning for some reason.

Also, please review my flower list for bridal party/attendants/etc. and tell me if "I'm doing it right".

-bridal bouquet
-bridesmaid bouquets (2)
-Flowers for flower girl
-Boutonniere for groom
-Boutonniere for groomsmen (2)
-Boutonniere for ring bearer
-Corsage/flower pin for MOB
-Boutonniere for SFOB
-Corsage/flower pin for MOG

Am I leaving anyone out? Should I provide a corsage/flower pin to my grandmothers?

*Edit: we are not having readers. THe officiant will be doing the only reading included as part of the ceremony. Also, our groomsmen were going to double as ushers. Is this a bad idea? Do we even need ushers? There's only about 3 people from Fi's family invited so his mom is concerned that most guests will automatically gravitate towards one side.

  • I've heard if you got to a Costco or Sam's Club, they can order the flowers for you. That might be a little more "safe" since you're dealing with actual people.

I'm sure you'd be fine going either way though.
  • Are you giving flowers to grandfathers?
    Grandmothers?
    Fathers?

If you are concerned about sides, have a groomsmen just tell people or make a cute sign that says something like "As two familes become one, pick a seat not a side."

Costco does carry the hydrangeas at about the same price as the website I'm looking at, but other than that my only selection would be roses :( and we don't have Sam's Club where I'm from. Thanks for the tips!

Should I be giving flowers to my grandfather? That's what I don't know. My Grampy on my mom's side will be the only one who will be in attendance. I was thinking my grandmothers would get something flower related, but I didn't know about my grampy. My father is passed away and FI's father is not part of our lives, but my step dad will be walking me down the aisle. Does he get a boutonniere too? I guess so eh.

I also like the idea of the cute sign.

  • We were recommended to go with Sams Club from our vendor and i read the reviews ( bc i was worried they might not arrive on time) and all were very positive. we are going with them. the price is alot cheaper and shipping is free and you can buy in bulk.
  • Florists order their flowers from wholesalers who often list their products online. If your florist isn't bitter about you ordering for yourself, you could ask her who her supplier is (or if she is bitter, ask other florists in the area).

Make sure you read up on how to properly care for transported stems/flowers, so that your flowers don't wilt before you can use them.

You don't have to provide flowers for the grandmothers, but it's a nice gesture. Were you making any arrangements for the ceremony or reception location? Were you putting any flowers on the cake? These are areas you might have overlooked.

    Good luck!
  • I love that you used eh in your post.  LOL

Definitely get flowers for your step-dad and grandmas!  I'm getting a corsage for my sister-in-law - she'll be helping out a lot that day even though she's not technically in the wedding party.  I figured that's something that will make her feel special and stand out to the friend guests who don't know her.
  • I've always heard that it 's ettiquite to include grandparents when arranging flowers. I agree with PP... Sam's or Costco is the way to go! My FMIL is a florist and she is doing silk centerpieces and everything else fresh from Sams.

  • Sam's doesn't exist in Canada, and Costco only offers hydrangeas and roses... so we shall see I guess!

    Thanks for your help ladies!

  • I am buying mine online as well.
I went through amazonflowers.us; not sure about Canada sites.
Your list looks pretty good.. I went over mine a few times. I did get flowers for my Grandparents but we only have 2 left between the 2 of us (both are my grandparents) I also got corsages for my sisters who are honorary attendants and I happened to end up with an extra one because we ordered the pack of 1 corsage 1 bout.e so I am giving that to my DOC because she is a friend and doing this as a favor.
