Opinions on color please

I already posted something in flowers, but not really getting any responses.  Here is the deal...   We met with our florist yesterday (friend of FI) and he made a sample of the centerpieces.  We are doing 3 tall cylinder vases with orchids submerged.  The vases are different heights & there are floating white candles on top.
Our reception hall is very basic - flooring is brown marble, walls are light tan with espresso color trim.  Table linens are an eggshell (off white) with white dishes & silver chargers.  The walls will have uplighting in the bridesmaid dress color (or as close to it as we can get - which may lean more toward the purple side since I don't want to turn the hall into a pink room).
My bridesmaids are wearing Plum color Impression Bridal dresses.  It is like a sangria/magenta type of color.  Their bouquets will be a mix of pinks with a pop of a lime green.
Well I made the mistake of mentioning the color green & he made the sample centerpiece in solid green dembodium orchids.  Very pretty, but I didn't want all green centerpieces.  He said they make a green orchid with a throat in a plum/magenta shade.  Or they also make an all purple shade or purple with white.
Your thoughts on which way to go would be appreciated...  I am leaning towards purple orchids just because I really am not a fan of green.

Here is the girls dress color.

Re: Opinions on color please

  • I would think too much pink would be overpowering.
I would probably do a mix of the green and pink/purple.
Have some in green and some in purple would be my suggestion.

  • i think purple would be fine. we are spraying the same type of orchid for my bouquet a turquoise color so can you check and see if they have a dye that matches more closely then the purple to the BM dresses?
  • Thanks.  I am starting to feel the florists idea of the green w/ plum throat might not be horrible.  I just am not a green person, so I am trying to visualize it over the all green ones we saw.  Putting my trust in his hands is hard since I have done everything else myself (with the help of my FI of course).

He did have green orchids thrown around the table also - maybe a mix - one color in the vases & another sprinked on the table.

I understand that the florist is trying to keep the price down for us since there are orchids out there, but they will cost us a ton of money to purchase just to satisfy my color match attitude.

As to spraying the flowers, I don't know if submerging them in water would take the dye off?

Having 4 orchid plants at home, I know that white and purple are very common colors. One of them is white with purple cheetah printlike blooms. Maybe you could do something like that? Mostly white orchids with purple in them? I'd be worried about dyed flowers they say even for "natural feel" dyed ones to not submerge in water because the dye will run. ETA: just remembered that mine are phaleonopsis sp? orchids, not dendrobium. This isn't what mine look like, but they're nice and subtle: http://www.orchidcare.com/PhalwithInsert.jpg

  • Those are VERY pretty.  I like those.  I think he wanted to do the Dembs because there are alot of flowers on a stem - so the vase will look fuller.  But this is definately something I like the colors of.  Thanks for the link!

Yeah, there are, but they're also a lot smaller. I think there's something to be said about several large, elegant blooms on a branch. If you google phaleonopsis orchids you'll find lots of different purple orchids. And no problem! I love orchids but they didn't really fit into my bouquet idea and budget haha.

What about half and half... half the centerpieces in green, half in purple?
