June 2012 Weddings

Davids Bridal

I posted this on my local board but since there are Davids Bridal every were and we have had lots of talk about dress shopping I figured I would post this here as well.
I know Davids Bridal is a hug place and tons of people buy dresses from there but please be careful. I went there today to pick up a BM dress for a wedding I am standing up in, in September. The girl in front of me was picking up her wedding gown. They brought it out and held it for her well she was supposed to sign for it. However, she said she wanted to try it on before she signed. The lady told her they were busy and it could be awhile but she didn't care she wanted to try it on. So they get her a room and she tries it on. They had ordered her the wrong headpiece and her dress had yellow spots all over it.
So next I get my dress and the lady does the same thing here just sign this. After seeing what the bride just went through I wanted to double check everything. They forgot the slip and gave me the wrong size sash. They were able to give me everything correct in the end and I happily signed.
When you read what you sign it states that everything is correct with you ordered and once you sign they are not responsible for anything. So if I or that bride would have signed they wouldn't have done anything to help us out. The thing that bothered me the most was that they didn't want you to look at your dress before you sign. Like they knew there stuff isn't right.
I know a lot of people shop at Davids but please just be careful and tell your BM to be careful.

Re: Davids Bridal

  • DB is definitely VERY hit or miss. The consultant who helped me with the dress I bought off the rack (which went ridiculously well) has been calling me lately every 2 weeks asking when I'm bringing my BMs in for dress fittings, um-my wedding's not til June 2012 and she knows that :-P It'd be stupid to bring my BMs in now.

Just for that, I might not have my BMs get their dresses there :-P

  • I agree, DB can be very hit or miss.  The one I dealt with several times in NJ as a BM was a complete pain in the butt.  I was hesitant to even look at the one here in GA because of my previous experiences but they had the dress I loved (and ended up buying).

My consultant has been fantastic. She accidentally sold me my hair clip in ivory (which I couldn't even tell until we held it against the white one) then one day a little over a month later, she called me and said she was looking over my order again, realized she had ordered the ivory one by mistake and had already put the order in for the white one.

She even spent over an hour with me a couple ago when I was trying to decide if I wanted to exchange my dress for the one of the same style that comes with the bolero jacket.

But LOTON, you are right and it applies to any contract you sign, whether it be the sales slip for your dress or the contract with your caterer.  Read EVERYTHING before signing anything.

  • I have had the worst experience at DB every time I have ever had to deal with them.  I do know some people who have been very happy with them, but the one in PA (near where I live) has just been horrible.   I would NEVER recommend them, sadly.

  • thanks for the great advice...good to know!

  • Sadly, this is the way it is with ANY large chain or franchise, bridal or no.  I agree with Tiffany, you should always fully read every contract you sign to make sure that you agree with it, as well as checking over items you've purchased before you sign the contract that says you received it!

I've heard some pretty unfortunate things about the DB closest to me as well, but fortunately they don't have anything I'm terribly interested in anyway!

  • I was a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding in October last year and I had nothing but issues with them. I won't even be looking at DB near me for my dress or my bridesmaid dresses after the hassle I went through with them.

  • My first gown trip was to a DB near me.  I LOVED my consultant, she was so great and spent probably way to much time with us.  She had previously worked with my mom to get her dress for my brother's wedding last year.  She even told us to find our own seamstress to have my mom's dress taken in since theirs are contracted to another company and are WAY overpriced.

Of all the consultants I dealt with, I would have loved to give her the commission.  I did really like two of the dresses I tried on that day and my mom loved one of them, but after looking elsewhere I decided on a different dress in the end.

I can't say my experience at DB was bad, but it certainly did feel like a cattle-call at times.  I agree with PPs, definitely read over with a fine tooth comb any contract you sign in life.  Companies can all to easily take advantage of people in that fine print.
  • I am not a fan of David's Bridal. I know they have reasonably priced bridal gowns, but I don't find their bridesmaid dresses all that inexpensive, especially considering the quality of the materials they use. I've had two bridesmaid dresses from there, both around $150 without alterations and the material on both were paper thin and not good quality at all. I've avoided them like the plague while planning my wedding.

  • I had heard nothing but bad things about the ones in my area, but I went anyways (which was a mistake) When I walked in, I felt as though i was wasting their time.  I told my consultant that I did NOT want taffeta and I did NOT want a strapless.  She went and got 4 dresses,  all four of which were taffeta and 3 of which were strapless.  She didn't listen to anything that I said I liked, (or didn't like for that matter)  and put me in some pretty ridiculous dresses!  One of them, I walked out to show my MOH and my Mom, and my MOH literally started laughing out loud, because it looked ridiculous on me!  I decided that after that experience, I would not give any of my business to DB.

  • I was highly convinced that I was NOT going to buy my dress from a DB. I had a horrible experience has a bridesmaid. My grandmother convinced me to TRY!! We got there and it was so, incredibly, busy. They ended up getting us in, but my consultant was wonderful with me! She really listened and was able to get me something that I wanted. My fear was that someone I knew would end up having the same dress as me...but my fears were quickly put to rest because the dress I bought was used as a "tester" that didn't test well with costumers so they did not make any more. I bought the last one, in my size and color!

I am very happy! Again, DB seems to be busy and was not my first choice but I got what I wanted ;-D
  • Wow..that's scary. I'll have to let my friend know to tell the rest of the bridesmaids to try on their dresses when they come in before they sign. I know I will!
  • I purchased my gown at David's Bridal because it was the only place near me that sold the Oleg Cassini dress I was dying for.  My experience wasn't AMAZING, but it wasn't awful.  I picked up my dress a week ago today, and made sure to try it on and inspect every inch of it before signing.  It was perfect!  So you guys are all right, HIT OR MISS for SURE!  I am bringing my girls there because they have the exact color I want (Mermaid=Tiffany Blue) and the girls already looked online and love so many dresses from there.  Hopefully we have a decent experience with the BM dresses!
