Fitness group check in

How has everyone been doing this past week?  Anything new that you tried that you would like to share?

Re: Fitness group check in

  • I'm starting Ideal Protein in a couple of days. My Mom started it this week and I'm excited to see how it works. I've seen many people with great success and I"m anxious to see how well I can do with it!

  • I am starting week 5 of a 5k training program and it's intense! I am still eating healthy and seeing results. Lost a total of 6 lbs already!

  • Yesterday we went to Chad's parents house and raked Ponderosa pine needles for a few hours. Man, that is HARD work!! I am so sore today!

  • FI and I started a new routine of playing one on one basketball after our weekend workouts. We spend half the game trash talking each other (jokingly) and laughing. It's a fun way to burn a few extra calories and spend time together.

  • I'm planning on trying this new thing that some friends have been raving about.  I'm not sure if it has an official name (we call it the name of the studio that does it...) so I'll just do my best to describe it and see if any of you have done it.

From what I've heard its basically a hard core yoga and resistance class but there is a twist, it's in a sauna.  You're literally in a 105 degree room and you sweat your ass off for an hour while working out.  Apparently you burn like 900-1500 calories in the class.  Obviously you're loosing a lot of water though and I'd bet its a little uncomfortable.  I hope to try it out in the next couple weeks.  The studio I'm thinking about trying it at has about 60 people to a class and it's pitch dark and LOUD club music.  The instructor is lit up but everywhere else is dark (I guess there's no looking stupid!).  I'm pumped up to try it and hope that the yoga and bands will help me tone up my "problem areas".  Have any of you ever tried anything like this??

Otherwise I'm just running outside when it's nice and attempting to clean up the diet a bit.

  • It's called Bikram Yoga, but everyone I know who does it just calls it hot yoga. A bunch of girls from work do it and they love it. But, from what it sounds, some people get sick during or after doing it for the first time. It burns a TON of calories though and they all say they feel great after class.

I'm jealous! My gym doesn't offer it yet. :( Let us know how it goes!

I wouldn't say I TRIED it per se, but I got a stomach virus last week and lost a couple of pounds!  Not pleasant and certainly nothing I wish to repeat, nor share with others, but it was certainly effective...!

Looking forward to finally quitting my job though (last day is next Friday) and having the time and energy to start really exercising again.

  • I would love to try that yoga class, but my gym doesn't have anything like that.  It sounds awesome though.  The closest I get to anything like that is going into the sauna or steam room after my workout and jogging in place, or doing crunches and push ups, and stuff like that.  FI and I are big fitness buffs, and we usually work out every day, but today was a sluggish day.  We didn't get out of bed until like 1:00PM, so we just took the day off.  Back on tomorrow though!

  • I've been going to the gym at least 5 times a week (I'm training to do the 60 mile breast cancer walk in July) and it's a lot of work!! And I've re-joined weight watchers - I had a lot of success with it a few years ago. But I'm on week 3 of weight watchers and haven't lost any weight. I'm beyond frustrated!!! Grrrrrr!!!!!! Hopefully next week I'll have better results to report!

The one I did was in Chicago.  I thought it was easier to do than what I was expecting because everyone there is encouraging everyone to keep going and it's really fun.  Plus, a lot of survivors would tell their stories so I found it encouraging to be next to them and see how much optimism they had.  I know at first I thought 60 miles would get rough but with my grandma doing it with me (she's a breast cancer survivor- 12 years cancer free now) I knew I could handle it.    While there, I honestly didn't think I was going as far as I had and by the time it was over I would not have guessed we went 60 miles.  I definitely recommend everyone do at least one once, the experience is amazing.

Ok I feel a million times better now - thank you!! I've been stressing out about it! I've been following the training program they give you but it's hard!!! And I keep thinking that if the training is so tiring how am I going to make it 20 miles through Boston in 1 day and then get up and do it again the next day! I don't know anyone who has done the walk so besides the initial meeting we went to I haven't heard any experiences or advice about it. That's amazing that you walked with your grandma (and wonderful being 12 years cancer free!!!!) it must have been a great experience. I can't wait to do it!

I was doing their training program before I did it too and felt the same way you are.

  • I went running for the first time this spring last night!  5 minute warm up, 25 minute run, 5 minute cool down.. went 2.36 miles.  Not blazing fast, but I did it!  I'm going to map out a 5K route this morning and try it out.  See whether or not I can still run a full 5K!!
