One of my friends from work just let me know that she saw next year's master schedule with our teaching assignments and I am super, super angry that for the second year in a row I am teaching a new grade level. What also makes me super, super angry is that neither time did they ask how I would feel about doing such a thing. This will be my fourth year working at this school and I am the person who has been there the longest amongst the English teachers. Each year, I teach English III & English IV and it seems that whenever there is a "leftover" class, they give it to me to teach. Last year, in addition to my regular English III & IV, I taught two classes of freshman. This year it's one section of sophomores. This year they took suggestions from us about what classes we wanted to teach and I specifically said I did not want to teach underclassmen.
There's nothing I can do as if I told them I was dissatisfied it wouldn't get me anywhere--I'd still be teaching the class. I'm just so aggravated. It may not seem like a big deal, but it's a huge undertaking to start teaching a new class--I have to create new weekly lesson plans, read all the material to become familiar with it, seek out activities, etc. It's really, in a sense, like being a first year teacher all over again. I guess I should be happy this is my last year as after I get married I will be moving!
