Hotel Blocks

FI and I are trying to finalize our hotel blocks, but they need to know how many rooms we're going to need in each block. We're inviting 210 people and expecting 180ish. 

We're also giving our guests the option of 2 different hotels. One if the downtown Marriott that is probably the nicest hotel downtown where we'll be getting ready and the other is the Brownstone (now owned by Holiday Inn) which is also nice - they have temper pedic beds - but we can get a great rate through our Alumni Association.

How many rooms per hotel and total are y'all reserving?

ETA: The Brownstone is actually a Double Tree by Hilton

The hotel I am using doesn't block rooms .. they just offer a discount

They only gave us 25 per hotel to start with. We can add more if the need arises. We have to hotels blocked off.

The hotel I am using doesn't block rooms but does give a discont for our guests.

I think we're blocking 25 at one hotel and then letting people know the information for a couple other hotels in the area, we actually had a long discussion about this with my parents last week trying to figure out the best way to do it.

We blocked off 20 rooms, but are only offering one hotel.  I would try to estimate how many OOT guests you will have, add a little bit for cushion, and then divide by two for each hotel block.

We'll have about 62 couples/families that are OOT guests if all of them were to come, which I don't think they will.

Should we do like 20 at one and 20 at the other or 25 and 15?

We're inviting ~280 and expect 250 guests. I just signed the contract to reserve 20 hotel rooms at the reception site. I'd say more than half the guests live in the NYC area and won't need a room or will stay with friends/family in the area.

It's pretty easy to get a hotel room in Manhattan so they can use Orbitz or Expedia if they want to get a cheaper deal or don't want to stay at the reception venue.

I'm having a destination wedding in Las Vegas at a hotel. I should have about 60 people coming so I blocked 20 rooms per night to start with and then if I need to add more I will.

My reception venue is a hotel, so we blocked 15 rooms at a discounted price.
We don't have many OOT guests, but I know quite a few guests will get rooms just so they don't have to drive home after drinking.

If I need to add more rooms, I always can.

Check with the hotels on how many they allow. I was going to block out 20 rooms until they told me that I would have to sign a contract and pay for any rooms that were not booked. 10 was the max we could reserve without signing a contract. However, if rooms started to book up we could add more.

I haven't had to add more yet... We have other locations I listed that I was not able to "block" off rooms. We are getting married in a canyon so there are campgrounds close and ski condos... I just put the link of those sites on my website.

I would ask them if you could have a special rate and people just mention your wedding. The hotel I work for does that. We have a book that has all the discounted rates in it. Or sometimes we will set aside a block for a large group and all the ones that aren't claimed get cancelled a month before the event.

I will have a block of 20 rooms for our guests at my hotel and that is all I get because I am getting a screaming deal and she can't do too many. I will probably get a rate/block for somewhere else too, just so people have an option.

We have three blocks--25, 25, and 15. We don't have a ton of OOT guests, but I figured that'd be good to start with. If you feel more people will choose one over the other, you could do 25 and 15, but if you feel they'll be more evenly chosen then do the 20 and 20. We have more at the two that are closer to the church and the least at the one that is in FIL's area of town.

Ours did the same. We're having the reception there so they gave our guests a great discount (and comped our room for the night of the wedding).
