I LOVE IKEA!!!

FI and I went to IKEA after church today, and I picked up some Tolsby picture frames to use for table numbers. We had so much fun looking around and imagining things in our future apartment! We have a page on our website with registry info (just the logos of the three stores we're registered at, hyperlinked to the gift registry search on each store's website)--do you think it's acceptable to add at the bottom, "Gift cards for IKEA are also appreciated"? IKEA doesn't do registries.

Re: I LOVE IKEA!!!

  • I don't think I would. If anything, make it a point in conversations that you wish they did registries because they have so much great stuff. People may pick up on it then. Or just use whatever money you get to buy things there. I think asking for gift cards is tacky IMO.
  • Asking for straight-up money is generally frowned upon, and gift cards fall under that range.  I think if you really REALLY want gift cards, those are best left to word-of-mouth notification - e.g. mention it to your mom, and if people ask her what you guys want she can mention it to them.

Depending on your circles, I know a lot of people prefer using the registry for shower gifts, but will primarily give cash for the wedding.

  • I agree with the PP'S. Please don't ask for gift cards. gift cards are basically money and it's rude to ask for money.

Congrats on getting the Tolsby frames! I am using those and worked on my table numbers last night, they are turning out great.

  • I agree. Word of mouth would be the way to go. Let key people know that you really like IKEA. People will get the idea.
