June 2012 Weddings

Registry Question

Maybe it's just us, but FI and I find it really weird when people who aren't invited to the wedding - who have no expectation of being invited to the wedding and wouldn't come if they were invited - ask us for our registry info. One of his coworkers today asked FI where we were registered. FI was shocked and just said that we weren't done registering yet, which is true.

Anyone else surprised by who wants to buy gifts?

Re: Registry Question

  • Not yet, but I may be.  I think if they're willing to ask, it's quite generous and kind of them.  Then again, at this point, they may also be expecting an invite, so it's a little tricky.  Hmm...

  • I find it weird that they asked your FI. If someone at work asked you I wouldn't be surprised. Every school I've worked in has thrown bridal and baby showers so I wouldn't be surprised if people asked me at work. But that kind of stuff isn't done for men I don't think....

One of my cousins, who is an Orthodox Jew and can't come to our wedding, sent one of our place settings back in November, before Save the Dates were even in the mail. I'm fairly cartain she just looked us up on the usual websites and found us. I was overwhelmed!
  • I don't think it is odd. What is wrong with people wanting to get you a gift? Like others said, maybe they were just curious. As long as they know they aren't invited, then it shouldn't be an issue.

  • I don't see the big deal. Sometimes they are just curious too, because, well, people are nosy! :)
  • Sounds like they are just a really nice person who thinks highly of you FI.
  • I agree with some PP's. I don't see the issue here. There are a few people who have asked us where we are registered, and I gladly tell them. Most are just nosy neighbors.
