Name Change

Sorry, I know this gets asked every so often on this board, but if the "search" function would just work, I wouldn't have to ask again!  Does anyone have links to all the steps I need to take to change my name legally? Thanks!

After you get your marriage certificate go and get a new driver's license.  Once you do that you can get a new social security card, passport, update bank accounts, credit cards, car insurance, utility bills, etc...  Most places just want your driver's license so do that first and you can have a couple marriage certificates on hand, but you won't really need more than that.

You can get a new ss card without having gotten your new license first - just bring a copy of your marriage certificate and a picture ID (old name is fine)Either way works - license or ss first - both want the marriage certMost credit cards and some utilities will allow you to change over the phone without requiring any other documentation - AT&T wanted me to bring a copy of the marriage cert into a store to change it and all the club cards for hotels and airlines wanted me to mail a copy of the marriage cert to themBanks requested I come in with old and new IDs and marriage certThen theres any insurance, titles/registrations, passport, voters registration, etc....I don't think the order of any of this other stuff matters once you get the license and ss card.
