Parents dance

Is anyone else NOT doing the Father/Daughter Mother/Son dances?  I am hoping MIL doesn't even come to our wedding (we had a BIG falling out with her and she said/did some pretty terrible things to me - multiple times now) and I love my dad and everything but feel kind of weird dancing with him...we are not the touchy feely type, we don't even hug or anything.

Also, any suggestions for a first dance?  After our first dance I want our Daughter to join us (she will be about 2 at our wedding) and we all dance to "daughter" (the song from knocked up)...

Re: Parents dance

  • We are doing something similar with our nieces. They are a huge part of our lives and we are the only intact well adjusted couple that would be the around the age of parents to them (they arent technically related to either or us) long story but we have kind of taken them in and love them as our own.

So in between courses we will dance with them (there are 3 of them will be 9, 7 and 4 at our wedding) to Louis Armstrong "What a Wonderful World" I don't plan on there being a dry eye in the house! that song gets me every time!

But back to your post, no i don't think it would be weird to not have the family dances. YOu are creating your own family dance that is pretty special in its own way! Good Luck!

</div><div>This exactly.  I don't think they are necessary and if it will be uncomfortable or awkward, I would skip them.  I think what you have planned with your daughter sounds perfect.

From a guest perspective, we think they are kinda boring and there just to take up time so we are not doing individual dances either.  We are thinking about having our first dance, and then having a family dance where all of our immediate family members join us on the dance floor.

  • My dad passes away when I was 10 so we won't be having a Father/Daughter dance. I don't feel comfortable doing it with any one else. We also won't be doing a Mother\Son dance.

  • I think I want to do a father/daugher dance. Not sure what song it will be to, but we have some time to figure that out. I don't know if Chad will dance with his Mom or not. That is up to them.

  • I agree that from a guests perspective they are extremely boring and kind of a time waster.  Having said that, I'm one of those girls who has been dreaming of my wedding for as long as I can remember.  And I always envisioned a formal dance with my dad.... so as of now, I'd say we're doing them.

  • I don't know if we're going to do them.  My dad and I aren't nearly as close as we used to be, but I kind of hope he still wants to.  So I'm not going to push it, but if he would like to have a father/daughter dance with me, I absolutely will.

I think the "family dance" with your daughter is a really sweet idea :)

  • I am in 100% with PP.  It's your wedding and should reflect who you are and what you like and want!
