June 2012 Weddings

Good Morning - Anyone else here?

I'm bored so I decided to make a good morning June 2012 thread! How was everyone's morning? Any fun plans for tonight?

Our electricity was out this morning so I had to get ready by candlelight. It looked like I was have a séance in my room. It was interesting for sure. Especially since I use a straightener every morning and I need a hair cut (aka my hair is extremely unruly). Not bad for getting ready in the dark:

Tonight after work I'm heading over to FI's apartment to have dinner with him and my BFF/1 MOH. I haven't actually seen her in a while so I'm pretty excited. We're having tacos and she's making an amazing sounding dessert with a pretzel crust, strawberries and some other stuff I can't remember. Sounds good though.

Re: Good Morning - Anyone else here?

  • Good morning!  I've had a rough morning so far.  My basement flooded yesterday with all the rain so I spend a good amount of time last night removing water with shop vacs, mops, and now there are a lot of fans blowing everywhere.  Tonight just more cleaning up the mess and working from home some after a late night at the lab.

Midget, I would have never guessed you got ready by candlelight today.  Also, have fun at dinner.
    image
  • Ick flooding. I hope nothing was ruined. That it one thing I'm thankful for with all of our rain...no flooding in our basement.

    Thank you :)
  • Nothing that can't be replaced.  We just have to throw out some things in the pantry that were on the bottom shelf, do some extra laundry, throw some rugs away, and dry out a computer.
    image
  • Midge, you really dont look like you got ready by candlelight! :)

Tonight I am meeting w/my pastor to see if he will marry us, then going home to cook dinner and play w/the dog and spend time w/FI

  • Well that's good at least MM.

Niecie, sounds like an exciting and relaxing evening. Is there any reason why your pastor wouldn't marry you? I'm sure he'll be more than excited to do that for you!
  • I don't see why he wouldn't, but you never know :) To give a little back story about it, he will be going to a new church in a few weeks, but I have known him since I was like 13 or 14 (he was my youth pastor at my old church, then moved the church we are at now and is moving again in a few weeks) FI is worried that he may tell us to let the new pastor marry us, but like I have said several times, I think he will do it for us since he has been around for so long. :)

  • I'm around!  I'm babysitting this morning, and normally I don't spend much time on the computer, but the baby is teething and cranky.  She doesn't want to be held, she doesn't want to sit alone, she doesn't want to play with me, she doesn't want her toys...  I hate hate HATE using the TV as a babysitter, but at this point it's the only thing keeping her from constantly screaming, so we're going with it.

Midget, you look great for getting ready by candlelight!  I'd have said screw it and just brushed and ran, haha.

MM, I hope the damage isn't extensive!  FI and I have slowly been purchasing plastic tubs to repackage all of our things in storage, JUST in case.  Our basement here has never had an issue with flooding, but  you never know, and we'll have to move someday...

  • I'm in a similar situation and it's all worked out, so I completely understand where you're coming from.

My pastor (who I call my big brother...long story) is leaving next month which I'm super sad about. There's a lot of drama involved with people in the church not liking him over ridiculous things. He's seriously one of the greatest pastors we've ever had. He pushes people, which is probably the root cause of them not liking him.

Anyway... he was worried he wouldn't be able to legally marry us due to the drama and it not being a sanctioned decision to move him to a different church. It all worked out and they did wind up sanctioning him to work with a ministry of his choosing. He is able to marry us next year and both FI and I are super excited about it. He's going to talk to the new pastor about this arrangement and assures us that it will all be fine. Biggest downside is that now I have to add 8 more people to my already overflowing guest list (new pastor and his family). I wouldn't dream of not including them though. We're super involved at church.

That got way longer than I expected...lol
  • I'm alive!

Midget - I am the same way with the straightener.  My hair gets crazy when I don't use it.  You did an excellent job though for getting ready by candlelight.

MM - That stinks about the flooding.  Hopefully the rain will be done with and you can move on to sunny summer.

Niecie - It sounds like you have a productive yet relaxing night planned.  Usually mine are lazy and not productive at all.  HAHA.

DrPB - Good luck with the little one.  Sounds like a handful.

My cat woke me up early.  I swear every day this week he's started crying earlier and earlier.  He can be a pain, but I love him anyway - although I did wake up this morning to discover he got in the garbage last night.  Aside from that I did a little job hunting online and applied for a position, watched Ugly Betty on Netflix and for the first time practiced writing my future name (my first w/ FIs last).  I hope I'm not the only one who does that.  LOL.
  • That is good that he will be able to marry you guys though! I know you must be super happy about it. Hopefully it all works out for me too! And your right, if he was trying to get people to grow and to move out of their comfort zones, that can cause drama. I have learned from my previous church that a lot of people say that they want to grow and what not, but when the time comes, they really dont.

Julbgordo, thanks!  She's not usually a problem, I really think it's the teeth.  She can't walk yet, and doesn't crawl (she can, but she hates it & won't) so I've set her up in a walker.  The good news is the TV distracted her from her own crying long enough to get her interested in toys, so I don't feel so guilty about using it anymore, haha.

Niecie and Midget, good luck with your respective pastors!  I've been wanting to ask a friend of mine to marry us, she's the mother of one of my BMs and would have us all over for dinner and such during college, but I'm not sure it'll work now.  She requires premarital counseling, and while I certainly don't object to that, she's also 3 hours away.  I'm trying to figure out if it's worth asking her if I'm just going to be disappointed, or if we should just find a good JOP.

ETA: Jul, I suck at writing in cursive so occasionally I sit down and practice writing FI's last name!  I've gotten pretty good at the actual letter formation, now I just need to work at speed...

Ditto this! FI is cute about it because sometimes he'll ask me to write it for him to see. Adorable! :D

And yes, we're both very happy he's able to do our wedding.

  • jul-  I have definitely done that a time or two.  Especially when I'm bored at work.  I feel like a high school kid who writes it all over their notebook. haha.

Today could be better.  I've had some tough patients this morning.  One told me to hurry up....numerous times.  The other told me I had no idea what I was doing.  Kind of frustrating.

FI had til today (my birthday) to decide what colors we are having for the wedding.  So I'm hoping he makes a decision by tonight.  Originally I had picked purple, but apparently he hates purple so I gave him til today for us to agree on a color.

<div>It's a family curse for me.  We all have chicken scratch.  Mine has gotten better, but it's not flowy or girly ... it's kind of average I guess <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-frown.gif" border="0" alt="Frown" title="Frown" /></div><div>
</div><div>FI and his family actually have really nice handwriting.  I hope our kids take after his side.  LOL.</div><div>
</div><div>This is really the first time I've written out my name with FIs last name.  I'm actually surprised I've waited this long since we've been together for five years.  His is a German name that a lot of people mess up (even though it really isn't that hard) and my last name is pretty average (like my handwriting.  LOL.)  I didn't think I would like it very much, but knew I always wanted to take it.  Now having written it out, I LIKE IT!  Who knew?  It's unique and fun and although people will miss-pronounce it for the rest of my life, oh well.</div>
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPIFFY!!!!!!

  • Morning ladies. I don't have anything fun planned for the day. The high school I work with is playing in the district championship baseball game tonight so I will have a late night with work.

Update on the engagement pic situation with FI: I suggested to him to think of places to get them done to make it more exciting for him. His response, "Ok" Men drive me crazy sometimes.

@midget, not bad for getting ready by candle light! If the dessert is what I am thinking of your friend is making, it is so yummy! A perfect summer treat!

@mm, good luck with drying things out with the flooding. How bad is the computer? Will it still work?

@niece, have meeting with your pastor! Enjoy the time with FI and dog tonight

@DrPB, I am the same way with TV's "babysitting" kids. I hate it. My SIL does it with her kids and it drives me up the wall. Hope the crying/teething get better. For you and for the baby

@spiffy, Happy Birthday! Hope FI chooses colors soon.

@jul, I practice signing my new name too! Hope the job search pans out for you

  • Morning everyone, Jess you look so cute in that pic.

I hope evreyone has a great day, mine will be spent doing nothing, then i have to babysit later, i love this little boy but he has NO tact what so ever, he will go up to a stranger at the supermarket and say you're fat, you need to lose weight or you're ugly, why do you look like that (i'm not kidding) last time i had some flyers on the table and he told me i needed to clean my house (his house is wayyyyyyyyyy more messier than mine is), i told him if he wants to come to my house he needs to learn how to be respectful

We were lucky to have a lot of things in plastic tubs or on higher shelves.  The computer should be fine.  Only the bottom got a little wet but it's drying out and will be for a few days.  My FI took it completely apart (he's a techy so no worries) so it could dry better and he said he didn't see any damage that likely occurred.
    image
  • Bonnie, I am glad you are teaching him to be respectful. Hopefully he picks it up from you well.

And thank you all for saying I look cute and like I really didn't get ready by candlelight. It makes me feel a lot better!

  • i'm here as well!!  taking a break from cleaning the house.  i was supposed to go in to work (vicki's) today but apparently we're over on pay roll so i'm home all day.  which could be dangerous- yesterday i got on TK classifieds and also got on ebay.  bought a roll of navy organza ribbon for .99 and a roll of navy tulle for 1.04.  told FI when he got home from work and he was like "i guess navy is one of our colors now, huh." (with a smile on his face).  we were picking btwn that and a slightly lighter color blue, but i told him it was super cheap and i could turn around and sell it if we picked a different color.
maybe it's good i'm home though because i was at work last night and we'rea bout to put a bunch of VSX stuff out for memorial day sale-i am such a sucker for vicotira's secret active wear and that is definitely NOT in the bidget right now!
@spiffy-can't wait to hear your colors!  what a b-day present that will be!
    @midget-looking good!
@mm-glad to hear most everything is going to be ok.  nice to have a techie in the house, huh!
@sprty-good luck with your e-pics, let us know how it goes
@julb-FI and i were just talking about my new signature a few days ago.  and i totally feel like i'm in HS when i practice too!
@DrPB- sounds like you're an awesome babysitter, good luck with the teething
@sweet-good luck with that little munchkin, sounds like you've got your hands full!
@niecie- good luck with mtg, sounds like a pretty nice evening
