June 2012 Weddings

For those of you with Day of Coordinators...

When do you plan on meeting with your day of coordinator?  Or have you already met with them?

I have a day of coordinator provided by the venue who is also the DJ for the wedding and I have several questions for him as far as day of time line, decorations, etc.  I've been emailing him about setting up a time to meet to go over details and he has yet to respond to me and I'm starting to get nervous about his lack of responding to me.  The wedding is June 10th so I need to decide when I need to get my angry face on.

  • My DOC is also provided by our venue. I will be meeting with her on June 7th for a June 15th wedding. However, any questions that I've had, I've been able to ask and have had no problems getting answers.

My DOC is also the florist and will handle the rentals (chairs, linens, table settings, etc..) and we met with her the weekend of March 31.  We have been in contact through email since, but we got all the basics out of the way on the first initial meeting.

We've had regular calls with our DOC since November... (but we're out of town too...)
    Anniversary
  • Our coordinator is through our reception venue and we've met with her either 2 or 3 times now (we've been engaged for FOREVER). I'm planning on meeting with her again at least twice before the wedding - not including dropping all the stuff off to her the weekend before.
  • If you haven't been getting any responses AND he's your DJ I'd say it's time to get your angry face on!  Not having a face to face meeting yet is fine, but if he hasn't gotten back to you about a signle thing you have the right to be upset with him.  I would call (and leave a voicemail if needed), if he still doesn't get back to by May 10 (a month out) you then you need to contact his superior.  The venue needs to realize that this guy's poor service reflects on them and that it might make people steer clear of them in the future.
  • OP that sucks, I'm sorry you have to deal with that! Have you tried calling him, or just email?

I'm meeting with mine within the next few weeks. She is my best friends mom and the pastors wife, so I'm not too worried, she lives a few blocks from me (and the venue). We need to go over everything and figure out the best places for the ceremony and then reception to take place before I can have the DJ out to show him where to set up.

I've emailed him three times and then I called him last week since the emails weren't getting a response.  I'm going to give him until tomorrow to respond to my call, if he hasn't by then I'll be emailing both him and his supervisor to let them know we need to set up a meeting before the wedding.  Since he is in charge of my wedding day, I didn't want to get too bitchy too early and piss him off but it is making me so nervous that he is not responding. Plus, it's kind of a pet peeve of mine when people don't return calls or emails.  It takes two minutes to type a response saying I got your email, I will get back to you soon.

  • BTW, thank you all for your responses.  I now know what I need to do!

  • I am meeting with mine for the first time next week, but I have been in touch with her thru email whenever I had a question or concern.

  • We're meeting with our DOC on May 10 for our June 9 wedding.
  • We met ours 3x already, we have one more appointment on May 16th and then we're meeting again at the RD. I'm a bit weird about the relationships I have with vendors - I don't truly feel like I'm ok until I've met them at least once...

  • Our DOC is provided by the venue, but she is also doing the whole event, so we have met with her several times. We will meet again in early June for a June 23rd wedding.
  • We've met twice and we talk by email and Twitter almost daily.

Honestly, I'd be a little worried about a DOC pulling DJ duty.  They can't exactly walk away from the DJ booth if something's going wrong. The lack of responses makes me think he seems his job as working for the venue, not for you.
  • My DOC is a good friend of my MOHa nd I have met her probably 6 times. I asked her to be my DOC because she has event expierence and a sassy attitude that will make her 100% capiable of taking care of anything that pops up. We'll get together for dinner about a week before and to go over what exactly I need her to do the day of.

  • We are meeting with her for the first time next week. It would have been like 2 weeks earlier but both of our schedules have been crazy.

My DOC comes with our venue. I've met with her periodically throughout the year and will meet with her one last time the middle of this month to wrap up what's left. The next time after that will be wedding day! :)

She's been awesome answering all of my emails in between our face to face meetings though.

  • I know that my Day of Wedding Planner/Coordinator comes with the venue. I have been dealing with the sales woman who is in charge of booking weddings at the venue. I haven't actually met or made an appt to meet the DOC. I didn't realize it was necessary. I live 3 hours away for the venue so I am not in town too often. Perhaps I will call the sales lady and ask her if I need to make it a point to meet the DOC before the wedding.
