June 2012 Weddings

Is anyone receiving gifts in the mail yet?

If so - are you opening them? FI and I have received 2 and opened them before realizing ooops- maybe we should have saved these for the gift opening.  Are you waiting to open them or ripping them open as they come?  Do thank you cards get sent right away for these ones, or wait till after the wedding?

Re: Is anyone receiving gifts in the mail yet?

  • We haven't received any yet but I will most likely open them somewhat immediately. I would like to keep them til the shower if we get any but I am sure the people who sent them will want to know you got it. Which is also why you should write a thank you note immediately. It lets them know you got it and it is one less to do after the wedding!

  • We haven't, but when we do I will open them and send a TY note right away. It's always good to make sure something's not broken or missing any pieces.

  • No, but I'd open them right away to make sure nothing is broken and send a thank-you out asap!

  • Yes, we got our first last week and I was so excited I couldn't contain myself.  We opened right away and sent a thank you note.

  • My FI and I have received a few gifts already. At first we were not going to open them- but then we realized we should probably check to be sure nothing was damaged before the return date had past. Also with regards to sending thank you notes- I was confused about this as well- Our shower is this Saturday and we are going to send out the than you's for the mailed in advance gifts along with the shower thank yous. Any gifts we receive after the shower, we will write up but not send until we send our wedding thank you's out.

I hope this was helpful :)

  • We haven't received any yet. If we do, we'll go ahead and open them so that we can send a thank you note. That way the person who sent the gift will know we got it. We will probably (try to) wait until after the wedding to use everything though.

The only gifts we've gotten off our registry that we're already using are ones that we got for Christmas...and I don't think that counts because they weren't "wedding" presents.
  • We haven't gotten any yet.  In fact, nothing has even been bought off of our registry yet.  But, we will probably go ahead and open them.  We are having a pretty big wedding, so anything I can get done before hand (thank you cards) I am definitely going to do!

  • We haven't gotten any yet but when we do, we plan on opening them ASAP so we can get a thank you note out to the guests. One less to have to write after the wedding.

  • We haven't received anything yet by mail beyond the exchanges here but we'll definitely open it to make sure everything is fine and then send a thank you note.

  • Etiquette-wise you're supposed to send a thank-you note within 1 week of receiving a gift before the wedding, and you certainly can't do that unless you've opened it!  I'd imagine anything sent straight to you isn't meant to be saved, that's just silly...

  • We got one last week. I could tell it wasn't wrapped inside so I closed my eyes and reached in for the card. When I saw who it was from I asked them if they wanted me to wait until the shower they are unable to attend and they said it was up to me. Of course FI and I immediately opened it! I wrote a thank you note that night.

I got a gift ~2 weeks ago (Ice cream maker, waffle mix and ice cream scoop).
The card said "Thank you for inviting us to your wedding!" so I unwrapped it.
**invitations have not gone out, STDs went out MONTHS ago so I don't know.... its from one of my male friends from college so maybe he thought when you buy a registry gift it arrives at the wedding? lol

I didn't open any of the boxes, just stored them until after the wedding but I sent a "thank you" note the next day.

**EDIT** Now that I am having a shower, I won't open any of the gifts until I see the card just in case!!

  • How have you all known who the gifts have been from? The ones we have received have not had any card or note in them. Only invoice slips from Bed Bath & Beyond :-/
For the From, they all put either my FI name or my name.
  • We got one! Last week I received a BIG box from BBB. It was several pots and pans from FI's aunt, uncle, and cousins. I opened two of them, then checked online to see what the others were. I'm taking the rest to my shower and opening them there.
