June 2012 Weddings

New here and need help with wording!

Hey girls!  I've been lurking here for a while, but have never posted.  I'm ordering our invites this afternoon and need some help with the RSVP wording.  Do you all have any suggestions?  We're having a church ceremony that is pretty traditional.  We're having a buffet at the reception, so we don't need a meal choice on the card.  We do need to know how many kids vs adults are coming so we can tell the caterer and so I'll know how many activity books to make!

Just in case this might help, this is what I have for the invitation wording.

With joyful hearts
Mrs. Brides Mother
Mr. Brides Father
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Brides Name
to
Grooms Name
Saturday, the second of June
two thousand twelve
at half past five o'clock
Prettiest Church Ever
123 Church Street
City, State

Reception to follow at Reception Hall Name

Let me know what you all think!

Re: New here and need help with wording!

  • How are you handilng the RSVPs? As in, are you having them mail them back to you, call you, e-mail you, use a website?

    The invitation wording looks fine.

  • That sounds lovely :)

For the response card, I recommend something along the following lines:

The favor of a response is requested by the second of May
We have reserved __ seats in your honor
    M____________________________________
    __  will attend
    and will need
    __ adult meals
    __ children's meals

  • It looks good to me but are your parents divorced?
I think if they are married it should be:

"Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Doe"

or if they have different last names:
    "Mrs. Jane Doe-Smith and
    Mr. John Doe"

the "and" implies they are a social unit

  • Are your parents still married? If they are, it should be Mr. and Mrs.
I just wanted to make sure...I know it could be that they're divorced and remarried.
In that case, would you do
    Mr. and Mrs. Stepdad's name
    Mr. Dad's name?

Our invite wording is identical to yours (except for the details).
    Our response card is attached:

My parents are divorced, but neither have remarried.  Is there a proper way for me to word my mother's name?  She still uses her married last name.  I've seen First Maiden Married, but I wasn't sure if that was correct.

<div>Not necessarily. My parents are divorced and my mom kept my dad's last name, but she is just Ms. now.</div>
  • Thanks so much for your help, girls!  I really appreciate it!

Kelsey, my mom generally just uses Ms. as well.  Should I put that on the invitation or Mrs.?
