June 2012 Weddings

uhh... Cake coming from England?!

So I talked to my FMIL last night. She's originally from the Caribbean, but grew up mostly in England. Most of her family still lives there and one of her sisters is making the trek over the Atlantic to join us for the wedding. FMIL informed me last night that her sister makes wedding cakes and is bringing one over for us. On a transatlantic flight. Apparently she's brought a cake to the caribbean country they're from before, so she says it'll be NBD.

I'm very flattered and I think it was very thoughtful of her, although I'm a bit concerned. We don't have a "baker" booked or anything, but we're doing a vintage wedding and I had a bunch of vintage cupcake stands we were going to use in place of our cake (you know, the 3 tier china plate ones... sooo pretty).

Now what? I'm certainly not going to refuse her offer but I don't want to give up the plan we already had in case something happens to the cake during the flight and I won't let all of those pretty stands go to waste. Will it be weird if we have both? If we have both, how many cupcakes should I get? We're only inviting 55-60 people so I don't want to have a dessert overload.

FMIL hasn't been involved too much in the planning and she seemed excited about this so refusing the gift of her sisters cake is NOT an option. I just need suggestions on a way to make this work for everyone.

I'm still kind weirded out by the whole thing though haha
