Wedding Dress Separation Anxiety!

I went for my fitting consultation with my seamstress on Saturday. I was expecting to go in, try on the dress, look at what needs to be done, crunch some numbers, get a quote and put down a depoit, then take my dress home with me until April or thereabouts. NO! She kept my dress!!!! ARGH. This is worse than leaving my little puppy at boarding for the first time.

However, the seamstress I am working with specializes in lace gown and vintage victorian gown restoration and custom replicas -- so I have complete faith in her talents and abilities to adjust my heavily beaded dress with ease. My alterations are going to be completed in about 3 stages, and the heavy beading is going to make it take a bit longer.

It's still nerve wracking to not have my dress in my apartment anymore! I've had it with me since September and I'm so uncomfortable with it being away from me!!! I know it's silly, but I just had to vent! I'm probably upset because I'm a control freak, and my dress is no longer in my "control". I'm sure I'm just overreacting. :)

  • I was thinking the same way, but then my soon to be sister in law mentioned that she would rather have it somewhere else - as it probably more prone to get messed up sitting in a house.  I guess that kind of makes sense, but I know how you feel :)

  • I hear ya. My dress is in an undisclosed location and I hate not being able to open my closet and say "hi" to it.
    UGH!
I am dreading taking it about 45 minutes from here to have to altered. :(

  • I went for my alteration appointment on Saturday too and hated to leave it at the salon. But I get to pick mine up in the middle of February. I will give mine and extra "hi" hug for you Laughing

  • I order my dress online, I did try a replica on at a store before purchasing it.  I had the dress sent to my moms house, didn't want my FI to slip up and see it. When I tried it on ( although I couldn/t fit it) it was beautiful. I left it at my mom's house so there would be no mishaps at home with FI seeing the dress. I wish I could open the closet and say hello, but for now, I will continue to go to my moms house.

  • I had to leave mine at the salon as well but I'm ok with that because I know it'll be safe there
  • I was sad to leave mine behind too!! We are going to get it soon and take it to the local seamstress, so then it will be much closer! :)

  • I could see how it would be hard to leave your dress with someone else.  I haven't even got my dress in yet!  It is killing me waiting for it at this point.  I am second guessing it and hoping that it fits.  I ordered it in October and the wait is driving me crazy!

Mine has always been at the salon since it came in.  I was worried about something happening at my house or my parents to my dress so it's being stored in the salon where it is fully insured if something were to happen.

I think that is helping me not have anxiety.

  • I didn't want to leave mine either. I will get to see it again in a month when I pick it up. But right after that I have to take it to FMIL house 3 hrs awayCry. She is doing all the alterations for me. At least I will not it is in a safe place. I can't keep it at my house since FI and I live together. Also I would probably want to put it on every day if I had it at my house.
  • I'm getting a bustle in mine in March.  I dread having it away from me!
  • That must be tough! I'm getting my dress made and last I heard, my designer was still waiting for the fabric! I'm not worried, though. It's a fairly simple dress.
