Update on FI

We went to the doctor on Friday.

He needs surgery.

But, for now the doctor will try to control the pain with epidermals. His first one is Friday.

The doctor wants one of us to switch insurance before we do surgery b/c his (or mine since we have the same provider) won't cover the surgery he needs. It will cover another surgery that won't really fix the problem just prevent it from getting worse. Which means he will be in pain for the rest of his life. No fun.

So I talked to my boss, and we are switching companies next year when our policy is up for renewal. Hopefully the epidermals will help him until then.

Thank you everyone that sent us good thoughts. We really appreciate the support.

Re: Update on FI

  • Definitely sending best wishes your and his way. Insurance companies are so frustrating. Will the new insurance company cover it despite it being pre-existing? I hope so!!!

Under the healthcare reform bill, insurance companies can no longer discriminate against people with preexisting conditions, BUT this does not go into effect for adults until 2014 (kids have been covered since September). There's a government program to help cover the gap until then, but you have to have been uninsured for at least 6 months. You can learn more here: http://www.healthcare.gov/law/provisions/preexisting/about/index.html

AshnRobo, good luck, you and your FI are definitely in my thoughts. I hope everything goes smoothly, and that he finds some relief with the epidermals until he can get the procedure he needs.

  • Good luck with the insurance issues. I know how frustrating it can all be. I hope it works out for you guys and that your FI only improves from here.
  • Good luck to both of you. I completely understand how stressful this can be (my FI has no health insurance) but I'm glad you have the epidermal option. Hopefully it will work until he can have the procedure.

  • Thanks everyone. We are both very hopeful about the epidermal. We are just trying not to stress too much about getting the surgery b/c his doctor is willing to wait as long as the epidermals work out. :)
  • Best of luck with your fi ( I can completely understand, if you saw any of my posts before I left to take care of him) but just remember that people are here for you girl if you ever need us.

  • Sounds like you have yourself a great doctor. All my best that his pain subsides until the surgery.
