Re: Holidays with family

  • We will go to my parents for Chirstmas Eve for dinner, gifts, movies and games. Christmas morning we will go back to my parents for breakfast and to play with my newphews and their Santa toys. We will then go to his mom's lunch and open gifts. Then back to our place and just relax w/the dog, watch movies and enjoy spending time together. The last two years we also drove to his dad's 6 hours away, but have decided not to this year. Both FFIL and FSMIL have to work all day Christmas and woudl be home around 11 that night and have to go back in at 7 Monday morning, so we wouldn't get to spend anytime with them. We will do Christmas with them after the first of the year.

Just the two of us would be a dream! Unfortunately, we have to make time to spend with both families. It wears me out and my MIL likes to do a day after Christmas dinner which is soooo annoying because I would like a day to relax before i have to go back to work. Although, my fiance is a twin and he only gets to see his brother when he comes in for the holidays and doesn't get to see him very often throughout the year, so I have to be a little more flexible. However, when they're together they watch football and play on their phones and don't even talk to each other. His brother acts like an ass and calls my fiance fat which pisses me off, but they're "twins" and "brothers", so I just keep my lips zipped!
  • All our past Christmases (6 of them!) have been spent with our own families and we never saw each other for Christmas.  Our parents live an hour and a half apart.  This year, since we're engaged we're sharing the holiday.  Christmas Eve and morning with my family and then Christmas afternoon/dinner with his family.  I'm glad we get to see both families.  I'd be sad if I didn't get to see my family for Christmas!

  • We're going to my parents' for Christmas Eve (we've always celebrated then), then FI's parents' for Christmas Day.

  • We are going to my dad's side on Christmas eve, my FI's mom's side on Christmas day, and getting together with my mom's side some random day.  We are not doing anything with my FI's dad's side though since most of them are in Scotland.

  • We go to my cousins on Christmas Eve to spend time with all of my dad's family and then on Christmas day we spend the morning/afternoon with our parents and then either all of my mom's family at her house or my sister's house and then Christmas night we spend at his grandmothers.  If Christmas is at my parents house (like it is this year) then we will likely bounce between my parents house and his grandmothers house as they're only about 5 minutes away from each other.
  • We will be seeing everyone over Christmas... here is our crazy schedule:

    Friday, Dec 23rd:
    1PM: Christmas at my Grandma's (mom's side)
6PM: Christmas at FI's parents house

    Saturday, Dec 24th:
    10:30AM: Christmas at my parents
    3PM: Christmas at FI's grandma's (dads side)
6PM: Church with my dad's side of the family

    Sunday, Dec 25th:
9am: Christmas at home with FI and Carter
    12PM: Christmas at FI's grandma's (mom's side)
    4PM: Christmas at my grandma's (dad's side)

    Monday, Dec 26th:
    RECOVER!!!!!

It is going to be crazy madnes..... but I can't wait!!!

We're having alone time as well as seeing both of our families.

Friday we'll go to his sisters for lunch to celebrate. We'll see FI's parents, sister, BIL and nephew while we're there.

Saturday we'll go to my aunts for lunch to see my mom's side of the family.
That night for dinner we'll go to at my mom's boyfriend's family farm where we'll have dinner with his side of the family.
Then FI and I will go to Midnight Church.

Sunday FI and I will have the morning to ourselves, then my mom and Dale will come over and will do Santa, presents and lunch with them and my brother.
My mom and Dale will leave to go see more of Dale's family and my dad will come over for dinner.

Monday we'll go to my aunt's house on my dad's side to celebrate with them.

  • We did Thanksgiving down in Orlando with his family. For Christmas we are staying in Cincy with my family. Next year we will flip. This is just the easiest since our families live so far apart. We were hoping to go back to Orlando for New Year's but the place ticket prices were over $625/person....that is just way too much.

  • We just got to my hometown last night. We are spending now until the 26th with my family. Then we will drive back to Alabama early on the 26th to spend it with FI's mom. We do Thanksgiving with FI's family, so Christmas is my family. New Years will be spent with a group of our friends in Gatlinburg.
