Am I crazy for thinking this/wanting to do this?

Our marriage night will be the first night DF and I will spend together in our house together. He has been there over a year but I am still living in my apartment. We fly out at 7:00 on Sunday morning to head on on HM. I have been thinking about making something for breakfast for us to eat to start our new lives together off on the right foot (if that makes sense?).

I know we will probably be exhausted from the day before and we already are going to have to get to the airport super early but I just wanted to do something sweet. Yay? Nay? Am I crazy or should we just get something at the airport?

Re: Am I crazy for thinking this/wanting to do this?

  • Eh...I say if you're up for it go with it but I would just do it on a whim. Make sure there's stuff in the house but don't force yourself to do it if you're too tired, KWIM? It is a really cute idea though and if you decide not to it that morning you could always do it the first morning back from the honeymoon!
  • I don't think you're crazy...but definitely overly motivated. I'm sure your then H (whooooo) won't mind grabbing something to eat at the airport. You can start things off on the right foot after the honeymoon.

Definitely agree with Shannon. If you are feeling up to it that morning than go for it, but if you don't do it I don't think it will doom your marriage. I think it is a very cute idea, but if you are exhausted or running late the morning of your HM I wouldn't stress if you don't make breakfast. There will be a wonderful lifetime of mornings for breakfast in your new home together. :)

  • That sounds like something I would say I'll do.

And then I'd wake up and beg that we just get McDonald's breakfast instead.

I think it's a sweet idea, and if you're up for it there are a bunch of breakfasts you can prepare a day or two ahead of time and just pop in the oven, like baked french toast or ham & egg casseroles, or even a quiche (freeze & then cook). That way you could get up, cook them, relax, eat, and head to the airport.

HOWEVER, a lot of them do still take a good deal of time (1 hour or more ) to cook, so you'd have to be up pretty early to do even that. If your flight leaves at 7, you should be there by 6 at the latest, which means you'd have to be on the road by... AND you'd be preparing them right before the wedding.

I don't think it's impossible, if you're willing, it will just take a lot of forethought and planning ahead. But I do think that something you could just pop in the oven and eat would be your best shot for a decent meal at home before you go on your trip.

  • If you're up for it, I say go for it. People think FI and I are crazy for getting a hotel suite with a kitchen in it but that's not stopping us! We'll save money by not eating out for every single meal on our HM. It will probably only be breakfast there, but who knows. Maybe some late dinners too?
  • If you are a morning person, go for it. No big deal if it doesn't come together and you can always make your first morning after the HM a special one since its settling back "into the real world."

We do this whenever we go away, even if you don't make any meals it's awesome to be able to keep snacks and drinks and what not. When we go to Mexico with my parents we always plan out most of our meals to cook so we don't spend a ton of money eating out and we also buy alcohol because it's much cheaper. :)

My family too! I hadn't thought about the cheap alcohol part yet. This makes me happy. Wine and Champagne for me!

  • Also, make sure you don't get anything that will go bad before you go away in case you don't use it.
  • I think it is sweet! I know I couldn't get up extra early to make breakfast, but if you can, do it! :)

  • You're definitely not crazy! That sounds like something I would do too, but we don't have a new house to move into, and we will already be out of town and in a hotel. I think it's a cute idea. As PPs said if you feel up to it I think it would be great, but don't push yourself to make it happen.

[QUOTE]I think it's definitely sweet but it doesn't have to be high maintenance, you could do some scrambled eggs and bacon (in the oven, it's so much easier/neater). If you are worried you will be too tired then plan on doing it as a surprise, so if you are beyond exhausted you can have a backup plan (breakfast bar/muffins) or grab something at the airport.

How do you cook them in the oven?

  • Do it! Make something in the crock pot so that you have minimal work the next morning!

Put tin foil on a cookie sheet and lay the bacon flat down, cook at 400 degrees (I think-FI usually does it) Then you don't need to fuss with it or turn it. Or clean a pan, just throw out the foil.

Nom nom nom, bacon in the oven is awesome! I tried it this weekend and I am addicted.

But making breakfast in the morning before you leave is a very sweet idea. I would definitely do it but just keep it simple. When you come back you can cook him an elaborate meal.

  • I think it's sweet. I'd either prep it before hand (if possible) or just do something simple like an omelet.
