Re: The Dress

  • I've tried on multiple dresses.  It's nice to have the extra time because there's so little pressure to purchase just because you need a dress.  Plus, you can find clearance dresses that you might miss otherwise!
  • I already have the dress. I got it last month. I knew it was the one as soon as I saw it in a magazine.

  • I have looked at dresses, but I haven't found one that I think is the ONE. It also doesn't help that I don't really know what kind of dress I want. But, I can't wait until I can start trying dresses on.
  • I was origionally going to wait to look at dresses, but I found one online that I fell in love with and am going to go next week to try it on! I can't really afford to buy one at the moment either, but it will help me budget and plan! Also, I wouldn't worry too much about gaining wait as long as you stay healthy it isn't hard to maintain where you are :) Soooo excited!!

  • I have tried on multiple dresses.  I have found one that I really, really like.  I want to try it on again at another shop since the one I tried on was way too big and in an off white and I want white.  It is still early, but my family and I are really excited.  My sister (moh) wanted to start going dress shopping as soon as I got engaged.
  • Im not really sure what style I want but I am definately excited to try one on for the first time! I look online but from working in a clothing store, I know better that I have to try it on to know how it look on ME.

  • I know the style I want for my dress and thought I found the dress of my dreams four months ago. I saw the dress online and decided to call the store where they had the dress. The store was 1 1/2 away from where I live, so I called to ask about the cost before I took the ride over there. I was so excited and knew that would be the dress for me, until I heard the price lol. It cost $7,000, which is not even close for my dress budget. I haven't gone dress shopping, but I know I want to find a similar dress...hopefully. Here's a picture of the crazy priced dress:

  • @melissa - If you don't mind me asking, what are you hoping to spend?  That is beautiful and I think I saw something similar somewhere...just have to think...

  • Thanks ladies :) Wish it was my dress lol. My mom is actual paying for my dress. She told me she is able to spend around $5,000. I would actually feel pretty bad asking her to pay more then that. I'm going to start the dress search around March or June.

Good luck to you and all the rest still in search of/about to start your search for THE dress!

  • Thank you girls again :) I'll keep you updated on the dress situation. I called and made an appointment for after the holidays. Yay!!! I'm super excited.

  • Hi everyone.  Feels like I've been MIA for a while.  I was sooo busy with school.  But the semester is over now and I can get caught up with what everyone is doing!

As for the question.  I couldn't help but to try on dresses a few months after were got engaged  (we got engaged in May and I went and tried on dresses for the first time ever in August).  I found 2 dresses that I really liked, but since the wedding was so far away, I told myself not to buy a dress yet.  I figured that wedding dresses don't change THAT much (at least I don't think they do) and that I will find something when it's time to start looking again.

  • I'm not going to try on dresses until June-July. I'm in the same boat as you guys and feel that what i like now may not be what I like in a year from now. My Fi's mother wants to pay for my dress and gave me a $1,500 budget. I'm a lil nervous about that so I am willing to pay the difference if there is one. She wants that to be her gift to me and I don't want to seem unappreciative because we really are since we are paying for almost the entire wedding on our own but what if I find one I like that is more than 1,500? I dont feel like I shouldn't be able to not buy one I love if it's more since this is a one time shot at getting anything I want. What do you think?

I actually already have got my dress. I went in this past June just to try on dresses to get an idea and when I put this one on I just knew it was the right one!! This is the color of the sash that will be on the dress and I have shoes to match. I just have to make my self not look at any more dresses!!

  • nursetobe2011: I love your dress. The color of the sash is beautiful. Are you using the same color as the BM dresses?

Tiffany: Again another beautiful wedding dress :) I love the bottom ruffles of the dress!!! You are going to make a stunning bride.

  • nurse and Tiffany- Those are both beautiful dresses! Can't wait to see pics of both of you in them. Smile

  • Lovely can't wait to see pics!

    That blue pops!
  • I was bored today so after looking at David's Bridal online I stopped in and tried several dresses on. I'm really happy that every dress I chose was very flattering to my figure! Anyway, I fell in love with two dresses and kind of like this other dress for the bridesmaids...though I don't know if it's a rotating style.

:Simple Dress: which is about half of my budget.
:More Elaborate Dress: that is close to my budgeted amount.
    :Bridesmaid Dress:
FI will be wearing a pin-striped suit and the groomsmen will be in something simple. I'm thinking FI will wear a black shirt and silver tie and the groomsmen will have white shirts and black ties.

I can't wait to try more dresses on, but even with those two, there is a chance that they'll disappear after Christmas to make room for DB's new collection of Vera Wang. I'm nowhere near ready to buy my dress yet but at least I know exactly what styles look good on me and if the dresses I find happen to disappear before I'm ready to buy, then they're not meant to be.

  • 2012July- They are both beautiful!  Even if those two dresses are discontinued, they both have a classic look about them that I am willing to bet you would be able to find something of a very similar style.

  • I Have also tried on dresses.  We are paying for almost our entire wedding on our own, So I am trying to stay on the lower end of the price scale. I found the one that I absolutely LOVE.  When I saw it on the website, I didn't think that it would be the one.... but I tried it on... and WOW!!!
I am afraid that when  the new styles come into the store in January, that it will no longer be there.  Do I commit now?  Or wait?

  • Thanks everyone!! Yeah I love the way it pops and I have shoes that are the same color. I'm planning on all the dresses being that color or having some orange(our other color) and some this color. We still have pretty of time to decide. lol

I have tried on dresses once. I also am going to try some more on with my future sister-in-law and mother-in-law on Dec. 29th. My budget is $200 (yes, two hundred!) I have found two that I like in my price range, in a shop. The dress insn't that important to me and I don't need a fancy one. I actually like the more plain ones, strapless or halter mostly. And I don't want a train. I don't want to worry about stepping/holding up my dress all day. Too much hassel, and I would be tempted to change into pants early! ;)

Our budget is set at $5,000 right now, and the reception and food are more important to us.

Anyone else have a low price range?

EDIT: I found a dress. It was on sale since it is discontinued. It is fancier than I had planned, but that is okay, and it was $484. It is a Maggie S. dress, Marilyn Marie. In diamond white. If anyone wants to look it up. :) The pictures don't do it justice though.

  • Melissa, who designed the $7,000 dress?

I'm in love with a Monique Lhuiler and I'm going to do try a few on and then head to the two high end bridal consignment stores in Virginia to see if I can track them down.  My budget for the dress is also $5,000. I'm hoping to find the Lhuilier dress (retail is around $8,000, I think) second hand and in my budget.

I think starting early is going to be the key to finding the dress.

Did any of you try on dresses alone at first?  My mother lives in New York City and she will come down for dress shopping, but I'm thinking of previewing dresses at two shops so her visit will be more relaxed and productive.
