Re: EXPIRED

  • Where did you order from? That's crazy! Will you be able to find someone on time?

  • Oh man. I would be on the phone giving the company a piece of my mind. I suggest you do the same.

  • Yeah, I will still call the shop and have them check into it. Because they may have it in the store and just haven't sent it yet.

  • I've never heard that about Maggie gowns. Mine came in a month early. My guess is the shop put the order in late
  • My dress took an extra 3 months because it was special ordered but I don't think it was "late" I don't think the designer should be blamed for this one.
  • Why wouldn't your seamstress have enough time?

Aww.. this. I have a Maggie dress and it came in early... I tried on tons of dresses at 5 different places and no one said anything about Maggie dresses being "known to be late." My dress was estimated to come in at the end of December and it came in at the end of November.

  • First of all, I'm sorry this is happening. I have a Maggie dress but I bought the sample so I didn't have shipping issues.

Can you call area stores and see if anyone has a sample in your size/a size near yours that you could purchase?

I'd also check  http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/  and  http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/ to see if they have your dress.

Lastly, I have no idea why your seamstress wouldn't be able to get the alterations done after this weekend for the 30th. I know plenty of brides who have had last minute chaos and had to get a dress altered in under a week. Especially if you are getting one custom made for your size, they should still be able to get it done. Perhaps you should call other seamstresses in the area to see if they'd be able to do your alterations?

You are a few short weeks away - you don't have to be nice, paitent and understanding, and just take it lying down. The time forthat is over. Call, hound, get them to find out exactly where it is!

  • I've also never heard that about Maggie, they told me 6 months and my dress came in 1 day early! I am SO sorry you are having to deal with this, I would go crazy on the retailer, just not acceptable! :(

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I hoe things work out for you. If it were me,  I think the time of being patient is over. I would call the shop and hound them everyday. I would let them know when you ordered the dress, (the fact that is was about  months out) and that the dress is not here yet is ridiculous. I would tell them, that I'm informing all my friends of how late the dress isand how it is messing with my wedding plans.  I would also talk to seamstresses in your area and se  if anyone ca do a fast job for you. Good luck

This situation is ridiculous-the time for patience and understanding is over. Maggie Sottero wouldn't even tell you if the gown was actually shipped or not? Call them back and keep asking to speak to "their manager" until you get to the highest level possible. Explain the situation-someone will give you an answer. Just be persistent-don't apologize, don't back down.

Also, you still have 4 weeks until you need to get on a plane, that is more than enough time for a seamstress to do alterations, even fairly major ones. You may just have to find a new seamstress, pay more, etc. The first round should take no more than a week, subsequent alterations take usually 2 days max.

    Good luck!

  • the seamstress might just be really busy given the season. SO many brides get married in June, plus there are proms and whatnots going on around this time. So I think first of all, I'd call around to look for a back-up seamstress.
And then I'd get on the phone and call around until I get someone to talk. I once had to do this with USPS and that was only over a Christmas package. This is a wedding dress! If you keep pushing, you'll get someone to talk to you. One of the best methods is to ask to talk to their supervisor if someone is not telling you a thing. Keep doing that until you get to someone who is important enough there to be allowed to give you the info. I'm sure someone will give in.
Beforehand it might be useful to check out their policies. what happens if the dress arrives too late for the wedding? Will they pay you back the money since the dress will obviously go unused then? in other words, MAKE THEM FEEL BAD FOR YOU.
    yeah, I'm a horrible person...

  • I agree that it seems weird that your seamstress can't get the alterations done on time.  I don't even go for my first fitting until May 16 (wedding is June 20) and then my second fitting on the 23rd!  They even said they could get me in for a 3rd fitting if they needed to!

  • I agree with PPs that you can find a seamstress that can do the alterations in less than a month.  I bought my dress in January and it's supposed to get here at the beginning of June.  When I started freaking out about timing- the shop said it was no problem to get the alterations done in time.  (My wedding is on June 29, I'm getting on a plane on June 27)  If you are willing to pay a rush for alterations, you can make it work and still get married in your dream dress!
  • I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this.  I agree that you should keep calling the designer and demand answers.  It has been more than 6 months since your ordered your dress. They should be able to tell you EXACTLY where it is and when you will receive it.

I would also start looking for a different seamstress.  I understand your timeline and the busy season but she should still be able to get it done. Prom season is almost over (if it isnt already in your area).  There should be no reason to use that as an excuse.

Jaschelle - Becky Fowler is highly recommended on the Dallas board.  I met with her yesterday for the first time - she promised me in the past that she could have my dress done in 1 week, even earlier if we needed it.  She's VERY sweet and reasonable on pricing.  She's a retired nurse who works from her home.

As long as your dress doesn't bump mine down the list, you should call her.  ;)  Kidding - you should call her regardless, explain the situation!

PM me if you want the phone number.

<div>YAY! I can't wait to hear how it fits-I'm so curious about people that buy a dress without trying it on. I did try mine on and I'm terrified of how it's going to fit!</div>

No need for privacy- Becky Fowler is actually in the alterations business and her name is thrown around all over our local board.

Also, IF all else fails the shop I got my dress at (in Allen- Bridal Co) lets you take their sample dresses, no matter if it's 'off the rack' or not. You might be able to find that same dress, i'm not sure if that's even an option with your bust size. But it's another option if you HAVE to go another route. I really hope for the best and that your dress is at the shop right now! That is so devestating (especially to the pocketbook).

ETA: oh yay!! it's in!! I think we posted at the same time.
