June 2012 Weddings

Am I the only one?

This wedding has made me a terrible employee!  I spend my days calling/e-mailing vendors, updating RSVP's, and checking out TK message boards, there is no time left over for any actual work!

Ok, so all that is probably more than a little exaggerated, but I do feel like I have less motivation for work as the wedding approaches.  Good think we are almost there!

Re: Am I the only one?

  • Girl I'm so in the same boat! I've been working late to make up for time that I spend working on my seating chart the past couple days.

  • I was going to post a similar thread yesterday!! When I get into work, I try to pump out as much work as possible and keep a lot of things on my desk so no one will know that I am secretly compiling a million wedding lists and stare at TK allllllllll day!!!

I used to be such a great employee!!! LOL

  • I'm there with you. I have had to start planning everything out and telling people my plans so I actually do them. I have to set my own deadlines or things won't get done.

  • I actually get annoyed when someone interrupts my wedding browsing with actual work.  It's bad.

  • totally ditto! i work from home 4 days a week so it makes it even harder! but my boss is a good friend of ours, a GM actually so he has been really understanding and i am trying really hard to not let it affect the quality of my work...but it makes it so easy to be on TK all day long. and then i read what everyone else is doing and i start to get anxious that i'm not going to be ready in time...sigh, anyway, in conclusion yes, my focus at work is wayyyy less...lol
  • Yep, same here! I also get annoyed when my wedding stuff is interrupted with work stuff. As it gets closer I have to try NOT to take time off work or leave early to go take care of wedding stuff. The closer it gets the more I dont' want to be at work. I can think of 1000 more things that I could be doing that being at work. UHHHH

Nope - right there with you.  I use wedding stuff as an excuse to procrastinate because work stuff is actually more anxiety provoking than the weddng (although that's up there too).

  • luckily, it is my last 2 weeks of work and there is not much to do. I mostly have to be here in case someone comes in, but the college is on a break right now. so I kind of just sit here doing nothing anyway. my desk is in a pretty sweet location too, where I can see if someone (like a coworker) is coming and no one can see my screen unless they come around my desk :D so I can get away with doing a lot of the wedding stuff at work.

  • Pretty much the only thing keeping me focused on work is the fact that there are only four more days left of school - two days of actual classes and two days of finals.  I've been entering grades and grading projects like a madwoman, but I'm still behind and feel like there's so much more WR stuff I could be doing if I didn't have to work all day!
  • I think we're all in the same boat (as I sit here at work typing on The Knot instead of doing work). LOL.

I get all my work done in time, however, I am not as productive as I was in the past. I just think I really need a good vacation as well. I'm counting down the number of work days I have left.

  • I feel so much better!  I am still getting everything done, but I find I am not volunteering for anything extra because I can be using that time to do WR things.  The kids in our after school program have figured me out too.  They like to ask me about wedding stuff and get me distracted so I don't make them focus on their homework!

  • Me too- luckily it is slow right now but FI keeps questioning why I'm sending him emails about wedding stuff all day when I'm supposed to be working!  I do get a lot done though!
  • I am jealous of all you ladies blowing off work! I am unemployed... try actively searching for a job while planning a wedding! It's impossible.
  • I do it too, but it's hard because this is a super busy time of year.  ONE WEEK LEFT then summer break!

The kids sure are getting restless right now.  It'll be better when I don't have to worry about it!
  • I spent most of my "break" from paper writing yesterday on TK. So no, you aren't alone heh.
  • I definitely have spent a lot of time emailing vendors and making appointments while at work.  I usually do that, or am here when I'm working on an experiment and sick of watching what's going on.

  • I agree.  I try not to make calls while at work but sometimes I have to.  But I do some emailing and a lot of thinking and jotting down lists.
My head is totally not into working.
And I'm freaking out because now I only have 11 work days left, but I have to get caught up beyond that in order to take the 9 days off for Wedding and honeymoon.  AND we are moving our desks so my desk has to be all packed up and clean before I leave!  I see some late nights at the office the next couple weeks! not looking forward to it!
