Bridal Fashion Week 2011

I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any talk about Bridal Fashion Week, which has been going on since the weekend.  Has anyone been watching the shows?

Lots of folks in the bridal industry have been tweeting and blogging with pictures from the shows.  The best of the lot, in my opinion, has been Weddings Unveiled magazine, which is based in North Carolina.  One of that magazine's co-founders was a fashion photographer and it kind of shows...their photos are awesome!

They have pages and pages of photos from the runways on their blog:

Any favorites?  I thought Amsale was amazing, but the Vera Wang collection was really lovely, too.  There were a few designers I didn't know before they posted pictures and I was really impressed!

Is anyone following Fashion Week and Bridal Market?

BTW, the trends I seem to be seeing:
-More short dresses!  Perhaps this is because more people are doing a second dress for the reception?

-Sleeves!  Almost every collection seems to have some dresses with sleeves

-Mantilla veils
- there are loads of them.  I wonder if they will be back in a big way?

-More color - Oscar de la Renta has an amazing dress that has about a foot of fading blue color at the bottom, he has another blue dress, and Vera Wang conitnues  to have colored dresses

-Large, textured skirts (a la Monique Lhuillier's Sunday Rose dress).  Everyone seems to have a dress with a big skirt full of flowers or strips of fabric.

-Lace or fabric embellishment over beading.  There is almost NO beading on the dresses this year.  There's lots of fabric embellishment and some jewels, but very little all over beading.

Re: Bridal Fashion Week 2011

  • Very interesting photos of wedding dresses for sure, definately not my type of thing but I'm sure it works for some people. I've never been a runway kind of girl though. What exactly is a mantilla veil? I saw some green ones which were interesting as well. Looks like I could get lost in the links on the left side of their blog though...lol I tired the Vue Photography link and the website wouldn't work past the cute little birds and flowers flying and blossoming. :(
  • I didn't even know this was going on.  LOL.  It's going to take a while for that blog to load on my work computer.  I love the short dresses, but don't have the balls to pull it off.  Knowing me, I'd have a huge black and blue on my shin or something a week before the wedding.  I'm not a huge fan of the color in the dresses, but that's just not my style.  The dress that I picked and will hopefully get does have a skirt full of rosettes.  I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing the blog.  I'm definitely going to be searching through it today.
  • I just got past the Vera Wang dresses ... her models look like corpses.  Some of them look really young too.

So far there are definitely dresses I love and hate in each collection.

Okay, I've been through most of the collections (they're still posting stuff, too).  The ENTIRE Watters collection looks like it was inspired by last year's Vera Wang collection (and maybe even the White by Vera Wang collection).  I wonder if anyone else seens the connections.

  • I'm also not one to follow fashion. I was unaware this was happening. So thanks for pointing it out and directing us to some photos!
  • I love Mantilla veils! this makes me happy.

I thought there was a genuine push to get away from that image.  Maybe it was more in Europe then here in the states.  Most of the models for the other designers look much better/healthier.
  • Oooh I really like so many of them!  Thanks for posting this!

I'm not really into the colored dresses either, to me they look more like bridesmaid dresses.  I do see what you mean about the textured skirts though, mine does have a bunch of flowers that I was considering getting removed, but maybe now I'll keep them!

Posted by julbgordo[/QUOTE]Runway models in Spain must have a BMI over 18 to work.  Just as agents exaggerate height and measurements of their clients in the US, I'm sure agents there are working the numbers so their girls hit the target.

    Thanks for the information! :)
  • I actually just bought Wedding Unveiled magazine a few days ago. I have been looking at some things from Bridal Fashion Week every once in a while. I have noticed more short dresses (I'm too traditional) and sleeves (not for me). But I'm in to fashion anyway, so I really like to see the new trends emerging in Bridal fashion as well.
