[QUOTE]Awww that's so sweet!!  Ya, I would have loved the photos but I'm also glad it was just between us with no one else around.

Yup, there's something to be said about privacy too. I'm honestly surprised FI proposed in public. He was shaking, it was adorable.
  • I had just gotten home from my masters class... it was like 11PM and I was exhausted. He was acting VERY weird. Then he all of a sudden asked me and I realized why! haha!

  • I just don't like crowds of people Midge. :)  Your Fi is so adorable!

I love all these stories ladies, it's awesome how different they all are.
  • I am enjoying everyone's story. I will try to make mine short with out leaving out the details.

I kind of knew the engagement was coming. My FI had mention that he was looking for my dad to ask for my hand. I thought he was joking. Until my big mouth dad told me that he asked for my hand. My dad actually got antsy about when it was going to happen.  We then planned to go on a mini vacation for my springbreak. ( I was hoping it would happen there). We were in Williamsburg,VA. We were supose to go to dinner however, there was a tornado warning ( it looked bad outside). So we stayed in and watched Aladdin (Disney movie). I guess FI didn't know what to do, so he went to the bedroom ( apartment style rooms) and brought back the ring, saying HERE IS THE RING I WAS GOING TO PROPOSE OVER DINNER. I looked at the ring and put it back on the table. He asked me what was wrong. I told him, he did not ask me to Marry Him. He paused the movie got on one knee poured his heart out and asked me to marry him.  I SAID YES!!! And Now ALADDIN is my Favorite Disney movie.

  • I knew it was coming but I wasn't sure when. As creative as he is, I expected the proposal would be romantic and unique.  Nope. We were doing our Christmas Eve gift exchange and he saved one box until the end.  He had been teasing me with said box for weeks, saying he had gotten me a bracelet for xmas.  When it came time for me to open it, he disappeared to the other room and returned with a ring box instead.  Lucky for him----since that bracelet looked like a dog collar and I would have been HEATED if I'd gotten that and no ring!

    Thank you! :)
  • mine is also C&P from our website:

The weekend before the proposal, Chris tells Amber that he has to work late on Wednesday night and since he won't be home, she should go get her nails done.  Amber says she will do it that weekend but Chris, being the persistant guy he is, insists that she go Wednesday night because she had been working in the yard and working hard and just deserved to go get her nails done. Chris had been working a TON.  Long weekends, long nights, etc.  Amber had been getting a little frustrated (ok a lot) with being at the house alone so much since she doesn't really know many people in Milledgeville yet.  Well,Thursday morning, Chris calls Amber and tells her that he will be working all weekend AGAIN that weekend and suggested they have date night.  Amber agrees and Chris suggests a picnic.  She thought that was super sweet and asked what she should make to eat. Chris says that he will take care of it. After work, Amber comes home and Chris already has the four-wheeler loaded and food packed.  Amber changes and then they head off in search of a really cool field that they found on their first date.  Chris pretends that he can't find it and finds a "random" place near a really pretty lake/pond. They spread out the blanket and Chris pulls out plates that he got from Trish Ann's (his step-aunt's restaurant) in Haddock.  That was the best chicken salad either of them had ever had... so yummy! After that was gone (completely haha) Chris pulls out yummy desserts for us to share.  When we are both stuffed to the max, Chris tells Amber that he has one more surprise.  She asks if it's food because she can't stand another bite. Chris responds that it isn't really food, but...  That peaks Amber's curiosity but she tells him they will wait just a few minutes.  Very shortly after that, curiosity gets the best of her so she tells him to go get the last "surprise.  Now, those of you that know Chris, know that he does not drink at all.  He had never had even a sip of alcohol in his life.  In one of the first conversations Amber and Chris had about that Chris mentioned that he would like to one day enjoy a glass of wine and relax with his wife.  Back to the picnic... Amber could hear Chris rustling around in the cooler  behind her but doesn't peak.  Chris pulls out two "redneck wine glasses" (mason jars on wine stems) and a bottle of (extremely) sweet muscadine wine Amber had had for a while (in a previous conversation Chris had inquired about the sweetest wines). Chris goes on to remind Amber that he had said he wanted to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with his wife, and he knew that she was the woman he wanted to marry.  He made this whole night out to seem like it was about us sharing this glass of wine (or sip in Chris' case even though Amber tried to convince him not to drink it after all that time of not drinking). It was a very, very special moment.  After the wine, Chris suggests we go for a walk by the lake.  It turns out to be mosquito infested so we headed back to the blanket.  With his arms around her, Amber comments on how perfect the night had been. Chris asks if there is anything else that could make it more perfect and Amber replies no, nothing.  He then asks again "are you sure there's nothing that could make it more perfect?" Amber, again, says no! It had been the perfect night! Chris then spins Amber around and is down on one knee with the ring in his hand and asks her to marry him!! She was completely caught off guard but of course said yes!! Once back at the blanket, Chris points out the blinking red light on the front of the four wheeler (that he had cleverly backed in to get out of the sun).  He had a camera strapped to the front and has the entire evening on camera!!! What an amazing man!!!

  • Around February, FI had taken my sapphire earrings to be cleaned. Usually when he would get them cleaned he would have them for a week or so trying to get over to the jewelers, so it kept slipping my mind that he had them for months.  In March, he made a comment on FB that he "had just seen the most beautiful thing." I was on break at work when I saw it, so I jokingly commented "How is that possible when I'm at work?"

Fast forward to September and our 7th anniversary. In the weeks prior he kept saying he didn't know what to get me for a gift. Our anniversary came and he said (with a complete serious tone) he really really looked and just didn't know what to get me. Deep down, I was sad but I tried my best to not let it show. After a while he came out of the bedroom and sat next to me on the couch and handed me an old Herbalife pill bottle. I thought he was giving me an empty bottle since I liked to used them for bead storage in my craft room. But when I opened the bottle I found my sapphire earrings wrapped in a Kleenex. I found it odd that he had regifted me my sapphire earrings, but I let it go. Later, we were getting ready to go to the video store to rent a movie. FI asked me to sit in the chair. I said I felt like I was in trouble and asked where the dunce cap was. He then went on to say that seven years was a long time and started asking how much longer I could wait: a day, a week, month, year, 7 years? At this point, I was beginning to get suspicious, so I played along and said another 7 years would be a long time. After he got his hand out of his pocket (the box was a little tight) he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I didn't even look at the ring before I hugged him and said yes. After I stopped kissing him he asked if I still wanted the dunce cap.

Months later, FI dished the "hints:" his FB comment about the most beautiful thing was when he found my ring (he picked it out all on his own) and he had my earrings for so long because he was trying to match the sapphire in my ring with the sapphires in my earrings. He also said he felt like he was "humming and hawing with his hands in his pockets."
  • Here is ours copy and pasted--a little long...
Picture it. Montego Bay, Jamaica. February 28, 2011. A picture-perfect (if Brian says so himself) beachside proposal during a moonlit walk. He pulled out the ring. She cried and said, "Yes." Life is beautiful.

If only it were that simple.

Don't get us wrong. The proposal happened just like we said. It's the lead-up to the proposal that aged Brian by at least two years in the span of a week.

Just two months earlier, Heather and Brian started looking at engagement rings. Wait, that's not exactly accurate. Heather looked. Brian had small but frequent heart attacks, but smiled a lot, so it looked like everything was cool.

A little aside: Heather's approach to ring shopping was great. To those of you (especially guys) thinking of proposing, here's what you should do: Go ring shopping together, and ask your potential fiance to pick 2-3 options in each store. The sales staff will write those selections on cards and keep them on file. After she leaves, guys stay behind and talk about money while simultaneously trying NOT to pass out. In the end, the guy can pick the ring he wants to buy, secure in the knowledge that his selection will be liked. No, not liked. LOVED. No need to thank us. The first consultation is free.

But back to our story. After visiting countless jewelry stores, Brian took extra blood pressure medication and signed on the dotted line for a ring. At the same time, Heather and I booked a weeklong stay at an all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Paradise, right? Not just yet.

Brian's next task was to ask for the blessing of Heather's parents, which would've been easy, except for the fact that work schedules and Brian's unexpected business travel put a cramp in the blessing. Undeterred, Brian called his future in-laws from San Francisco, just days before his and Heather's planned departure. Blessing given. Ready for takeoff.

But wait. Where could I propose? Brian called the concierge and paid STEEP international rates to hear him say, "Well, really any place is good." Thanks. Thanks a lot.

But wait. What if TSA wants to open my bag (containing the ring) at the security gate? Brian called TSA. After stifling his laughter, the agent said, "Just tuck it under the clothing in your carry-on. You'll be fine." That's what YOU think, Brian said - almost out loud.

But wait (while Heather and Brian are preparing to land in Jamaica), what if customs opens Brian's bag and he has to propose RIGHT THERE??? Brian's stress in this "paradise" just skyrocketed. But in a moment of clarity, Brian said, "Nothing I can do about it. If I propose in the customs line, she'll never forget it. Isn't that the most important thing?" Yes, Brian said to himself, sandwiched somewhere between joy, stress and anxiety.

Well, we made it to the resort without the need to propose at the Montego Bay Airport. With Brian's stress at its peak, he suggests on the first night that he and Heather take a walk on the beach. To his dismay, Heather didn't want to go for a walk. Brian insisted. He HAD to. My God, what else could he do??? If he didn't force the walk, he'd have curled up and died right there. He's sure of it.

So we walked. The picture you see above was taken just before that walk. Despite the paradise all around us, do you see Brian's eyes? See how crazed and bloodshot they are? That's not an accident, and no, the red-eye reduction didn't fail. That's love-stress right there. See Brian's hand in his pocket? The ring's in there. Brian didn't let go of it until it went on Heather's finger.

As we walked, the beachfront was remarkably dark. Brian's stress ratchets up again. What if he drops it? He'd never find it. Be careful and don't do anything stupid, he said to himself. Luckily, we came upon a spot of beach lit by a particular lighthouse.

Just enough light to turn Brian's stress into Brian's AND Heather's boundless joy. He pulled out the ring. She cried and said, "Yes." Life is beautiful.
