June 2012 Weddings

worried about RSVP issues

My FI's family are all really nice people but they don't exactly grasp the concept of deadlines and time. As an example, one year we were supposed to eat Christmas dinner at 11. At 1:00 some of the people weren't even there yet. I'm worried about having RSVP drama with some of them not sending in their RSVPs on time and and am seriously considering either having a really early RSVP date. Our wedding is June 2nd. Would it be weird if our RSVP date was at the end of April? That would give us more time to try and track them down.

Re: worried about RSVP issues

  • We put April 30th on ours. This is because our reception site wants a head count at least 2 weeks prior as does the baker for the cake. So having the RSVP date on April 30th it gives us 2 weeks to call those people who have not sent back their RSVPs to ask if they are coming or not. My family never RSVPs for nothing. So I hope they will cooperate this time, or else I will be on the phone 24/7.

Oh and we are getting married on June 2nd also...

  • Thanks for the opinion, calisel! I just feel like I want more time to make sure that everyone gets their stuff in, or if we have to call, then we can do it at night instead of taking time off from work.

For a June 2 wedding, I don't see a problem with an end of April RSVP - I think most of us have a deadline roughly a month in advance (my wedding is June 15, RSVP date May 15).  I think 3-4 weeks is pretty standard, so a little more shouldn't be a problem, especially if the family is likely to not respect it anyway.  Then you definitely have an excuse to be calling them far in advance to get their responses :)

  • I think the end of April would be fine for an early June wedding.  As calisel brought up, you should check your venue contract to see when they would need final count by.  Depending on how large your guest list is, even if 25% don't send back the RSVP within the requested time, it shouldn't be too many people to track down.  Even if you just do a few a night and you and FI can tag-team it, it should go pretty quickly.

I set my rsvp date as 3/31 fot our 6/8 wedding
  • My wedding is June 23rd and I want at least a month so I can contack people who don't RSVP!

  • I would set the RSVP to end of april, just to be on the safe side. just don't worry about it too much until you know you need to. hopefully people will respect the fact that you need a head count if they want to get fed, and will actually RSVP on time.
