Espresso/Dark Brown BM Dresses and FMIL drama

Hi Ladies
I'm new to the AA board (my wedding is 10/10/10 in the Baltimore Suburbs so I usually hang out on that board) but I need some advice from here.....

My colors are ivory/champagne, chocolate/espresso, and orange (flowers only).

I want the BM's to wear chocolate brown dresses with champagne sashes. My FSIL is in the wedding (she's 20) and my FMIL continuously makes comments about "make sure the brown looks good on the darker skinned ladies", and every time I send her a picture of a dress that is on a non-AA model, she goes crazy like "do they EVER have pictures of these dresses on darker models". While I understand where she's coming from, it seems to me that instead of making sure we choose dresses that style and cut wise look good on everyone, and go with the wedding color scheme, she just wants to make sure the dress looks great on her daughter. Am I over-reacting to this? Has anyone on this board used the darker brown dresses in their wedding and have pictures I can show her where these dresses looked great? I sent her over to look at www.soulfulengagements.com where they have some of those dresses on darker models, but how do I also get her to cut down on the constant opinion sharing and trust that I'll choose something that flatters everyone?

Thanks in advance ladies!

My M.O.H. has a darker complexion an she looks great in my dress - which is espresso.  When I asked my B.M's for ideas they weren't helpful so I made the decision after taking one of them in to try them on.  So ask her to go with you and try it on and then maybe she'll be more helpful.

I originally picked one dress from Alfred Angelo ( i went to the store in Glen Burnie MD).  When I went to the store I completely changed anyway - they look alot different in person due to the fabric types etc.

And I also suggest you let her know she can send you suggestions as well instead of just complaining!

    Good luck!

I wore "truffle" when I was in my brother/sister-in-law's wedding. I do have a lighter complexion though. My mom, who is much darker than me, had a champagne (top) and truffle (bottom) dress and looked amazing in it.

I would just encourage your FSIL to go shopping when you all are choosing a dress. That way SHE can be the one to give her opinion without being coerced by FMIL.
When push comes to shove, it's your decision. You can let her know that you are considering her opinions as well as your other bridesmaids, and once you make your decision, that's that. She can make a decision whether or not it's that big of a deal or not from there.

Actually I do.  My wedding colors were chocolate brown, gold, and burnt orange.  Same as your wedding we used orange mainly for the flowers.  My BM's wore the truffle (chocolate dresses from david's bridal).  I used style number F12732.  The website will show you lot's of pics of AA BM's in truffle colors.  Also, if you want you can log onto my photographer's blog and see a pic of my wedding party.  It's www.seanmarshalllinblog.com. Just scroll down to Shante and Jason.  GL!

I'm a lil' late...but I just want to say that I think AA women of all shades look gorgeous in chocolate brown.  Well, I actually think we look good in just about anything, but perhaps I'm a lil' bias as an AA woman myself. LOL.Laughing
