I don't understand why people want to make weddings into a competition.

I have an friend(we used to be close but grew apart. We haven't talked in years) who is getting married 09/12. My friend/bm told me she(former friend) was trying to get in touch with me because she had some advise/tips to help me with wedding planning.

 I thought it would be nice to talk with someone local. On Tuesday night I sent her a msg on fb and we started talking about wedding planning stuff. After talking to her for a while I started to feel like she was just being nosey and didn't have any help. Lol She would write real general responses. (I won't go into detail) 

 Last night I was talking to my friend/bm and she told me a ton of negative crap my former friend was saying. It was so ridiculous I had to laugh. Every single thing she said was negative. For example. Photobooths are tacky, how can the pictures be favors. She also I have too many wedding colors (purple pink white and red). why am I buying cheap dollar store vases( I'M buying some from dollar tree online). I told her i have all of vendors deposits paid and I'm taking a break. She asked my friend why am i taking a break? You can take breaks.( i didn't know how having all the deposits on vendors is negative). Why haven't ordered the bridesmaids dresses? Why am i diying some of my flowers? THE LIST GOES ON !

  The funniest part is i don't think she has done anything. I think she is just talking because we(me&bm) both have caught her in lies. Do any you have people competing with you? I still in shock she didn't say ONE thing positive. Smh! I like my big old colorful tacky wedding! Lol

I wouldn't worry about her.  You mentioned you gew apart.. that happened for a reason.  I wouldn't contact her again.
And for what it's worth, I can see why your "taking a break"... weddings are hard on wallets and you just need a moment for your bank account to breath .

You both are right. I'm done talking to her. I should have known better but I went against my gut feeling. It would've been nice to have someone local. The local boards on the knot aren't really local. I live about an hr and 1/2 away from dc and Baltimore.

She is just petty, and unfortunately those people are everywhere.
Ignore her, your wedding will be beautiful.

Luckily I have had several friends getting married around the same time but no competition. They've all been very supportive sharing advice and tips and taking advice from me. If I did have someone being competitive I would absolutely stop talking about it with them because I HATE cometition - I swear I am the least competetive person in the world and competetive people stress me out.

I have a friend getting married within a couple of weeks of me.  I used to tell her all of my plans but I stopped b/c I felt like it was turning into a competition.

Sorry about that, just stop sharing your wedding plans with her and ignore her. It doesn't really matter what she thinks as long as you are happy with what you're doing!

I'm glad I don't have anyone close to me getting married around the same time so I don't have to feel like I'm having any competition.  That sucks about that girl but she is just rude and petty if she is doing things like that.
