Ladies...explain to me...

ThE something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue tradition? Cuz I have no idea lol

Re: Ladies...explain to me...

  • Its just exactly that. They say to have 1 of each of those so that your marriage will be happy. It started off as an English tradition.  I'm just doing it because it seems fun to do.

  • Each verse refers to a good luck item:

    • Something old - continuity with the bride's family and the past
    • Something new - optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead
    • Something borrowed - an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride
    • Something blue - Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true."

    Precisely!

It's not mandatory just a tradition. I think it's fun because it's like a little treasure-hunt to me and I love treasure-hunting. So far I've found something old (my mom's wedding band will now be my wedding band) and something blue (my dress label). BUT I still have to find something to borrow, which I'll probably get from FMIL and something new...
  • I wish I would have known that the something borrowed is supposed to be from someone in a good relationship. My cousin is giving me something borrowed and her marriage is not going too well.....
