Dishes: Plastic or China???

Hello Ladies,I'm a trying to save a buck a two.. Anywho, I was wondering would it be tacky to use actual glasses, real forks, and clear plastic plates? I want to use china plates but it will be costly.. The other option is have the wedding party use china plates and the guest will use the clear plastic plates. What do yo think? Thanks?

Party City has those clear plates that look like glass..How is your set-up? If buffet style, than I don't think its going to look tacky at all..now if you came up in there with those white foam plates, baaabbyyy I would have to tell you a lil something..lolWhat about renting? Do you have any companies that you can rent from? Our company here in Michigan rents everything for .30 a piece.

I wouldn't mix and match. Keep it all plastic or all china. Ditto the renting suggestion.

Girl, Stop.. I don't even use the foam plates in my own home..LOL!!! We are doing buffet style for the guest and the wedding party will be served. I have checked into some rental places and they are half of what the caterer is charging.. My issue with that is 1) I need to check with the carterer to make sure its okay to bring dishes from the outside and 2) the cost if something happens to the dishes.

The venue we used required insurance to cover everything from damage to the venue on down to us if someone left the venue drunk, had an accident and tried to sue us. We were either able to use our homeowners or purchase a separate one. I think we used Wed Safe and it only cost like $150 for $1mil coverage.

@Off, I will. I really want to have real plates, glasses, and forks especially since I'm having a evening reception. I have a meeting with the carterer next week. I will definitely ask if she has any other options..

to be honest, really honest - yep that's tacky...either do all plastic or all glass but not a mixture.have you looked into getting your glassware/silverware/plates from Ikea??...they have great stuff like this for cheap and they way I've seen alot of the knotties on my local board do it is they buy the silverware one pay period then the glassware another pay period and so forth...this allowed them to catch sales and/or coupons to use and keep cost down...depending on the # of guests you are having, this maybe a great way to get what you want because you are still gonna pay $$ for plastic plate settings as well...HTH & GL!  ;)
