I plan on having them. Its really because I want them folded inside the napkins. In my head it will look cute with the hot pink napkins folded around black and white menu cards. Only the word "menu" will show (they will have to take it out of the napkin to see the actual wording). Then I'll have the favors (birds nest with candy inside) on top of the napkin. I'm also having a buffet and I want people to know what they will be eating before they get to the station. No need for them to waste food because they picked the first meat they saw!
I guess it's up to what you like and want to spend $$ on. I'm at the point I cut out a lot of lil extras. Sure they're nice but will only end up in someone's garbage. I have a buffet and we will not have any menus.
We're doing passed/displayed hors d'oeuvres, too. I'm not doing menus... for the displayed items we'll have cute signs that ID the dish and its ingredients... For the passed items, the waitstaff will inform guests of the item and it's ingredients. It's not really necessary to have individual menus printed.
For our cocktail hour, we not having menus, but we have waiters walking with the hors' doeuvres and serving our guests, so there really no need for menus, they can just ask waiter. For the sit down dinner we are having menus because we are having a custom menu w/ Dominican dishes and two dinner options so the menus will tell what each entree is.
