Hurt & Disappointed

Remember I told you that I received a promotion. Well I work with my sister in law's sister who has been in the department for 9 years. She hasn't received an upgrade or anything so now she is upset with me because I have received one. Since yesterday she has been walking around with a screwed up face and today she rolled her eyes and is acting like she doesn't want to speak to me. I'm not like that at all; I would be so happy for her if she were to be upgraded or received a higher paying position or did something to improve herself. It hurts so bad because she is supposed to be like family and she is hating on me. I was almost in tears. Idk what to do.

what type of relationship did you have with her prior to your promotion?...if it was a friendly, carefree one then I say ask her to lunch and just casually say to her that you want to be able to continue to work with her productively and harmoniously regardless of the recent changes to your status within the dept/company as you would do for her if her status had changed...if she refuses to go to lunch with you OR if during the lunch she straight gives you the bidness, chalk it up to her inability to be open to you and K.I.M. because you reached out to her and she shut that door of friendship and understanding on you...HTH!

Next time she walks by, say HI HATER!!! No, seriously approach her lunch and ask her if something is bothering her, then go from there. Sometimes "we" do not know how to celebrate each other's accomplishment's and thats a shame. Good luck

That is very unfortunate. Some people don't like to see others succeed and some people believe in seniority on the job, not education or accomplishments. Please don't allow someone else to steal YOUR joy, you are giving her too much power. Take it for what it is, an inability to be happy for you, how very small minded of her.  Maybe she hasn't gotten a promotion because of her attitude.Congratulations, and wear your promotion well!!!

Her children are my godsister and godbrother; Her mom and my mom are also friends. That is why it hurts so much but I will have a talk with her. Thanx for listening and giving your advice

Miamibride...girl you need to stay out my head. But I totally understand. Kim have a talk with her, sometimes you gotta tell folks to stop tripping because sometimes they don't realize what they are tripping about is stupid. Its not like you stole the promotion from up under her or you had a say so in the decision to not give her a promotion. Maybe she needs to evaluate herself and her job performance and figure out why she hasn't moved upward in 9 years. But don't worry about it, stay stress free right now.

I agree with Lovie129. You have to dust your shoulders off and keep it moving. I hope she realizes her stank attitude is having an adverse effect on her relationship with her.
