Hotel Room Block mess... The Redux (LONG)

I'm am so upset with my FI right now. He was responsible for getting our room block at the hotel where we are having our reception. He did call and get a contract, but we looked over it and I decided to change our room types. I told him again to call the hotel to update our choices to get a revised contract. That was about two months ago and he just called yesterday. The hotel is booked for that entire weekend now! So we are having our reception at a hotel where none of our guests have the option to stay. That is so messed up. It's my fault that this happened because I should have not given him this to do and I'm mad at myself. I'm going to get a block another hotel, but this is just crazy. I called the sales office this morning and he said that they booked 103% of thier rooms for that weekend and he will watch for any cancellations. I'm so pissed. This situation should have never happened, but since it has I gotta fix it. Sorry it's so long.

You don't have the original rooms either???? Or did he call and cancel the original rooms without booking the revised rooms?

We didn't book the orignal rooms because I wanted to change the room types. Once I told him what to get, he didn't call until too late.

Oh well...these things happen. Let's just KIM and get some rooms hopefully close to where the wedding/reception is. My concern is if this hotel is booked, others nearby willl get overflow and book soon as well. Deep breath, count to 10, get to work! It'll work out. Just watch!

thanks Cat. It's just this is soo odd not having an hotel block at the hotel where my reception is. It's crazy.

I agree with Cat. One thing I will mention is to read your reception contract. My hotel gives a discount on some things if you book a block of rooms with them. If this is he case with your reception, you may lose some discounts. Hope everything works out.

Thanks Lovie! I will do that. I do know that we were supoosed to get a free room with our package, but I'm not sure anymore. But that doesn't matter anymore because when I block my rooms at another hotel, I get a free room any way.

I say go ahead and block at another hotel. You've got about 6 months before u send out invites with that info right? The hotel you prefer may have cancellations and such by that time. IMO since you're having your event there, they should FIND y'all some rooms.

Anytime sweety. Try to negotiate the price down for the costs of the rooms b/c you are bringing people who would have otherwise not been there, and they are definite sales b/c they are attending your wedding. See if they will knock an additional 5% off due to slow hotel business. It never hurts to ask.

Agua- Typically hotels don't have you the "free" room for the room block they give you the "free" room with the ballroom rental so verify that on your contact.

Ohh man.  I feel your pain.  8 months ahead of time and the place is booked?  Maybe there is some convention or something.  Anyway, woman to woman, that's why I handle all the major stuff myself.  Almost perfect credit score and still dont trust him with anything major for the wedding.  Dont be to upset with him...okay :)  People make mistakes and we are all human.

khaligumbs- There is a convention that weekend so a lot of the hotels in the area are booked. So an update:I called the hotel sales guy and he told me that there was no rooms left. So I email the the banquet coordinator and asked her about our complementary room that comes with our package. She emailed me back saying that she told us that the rooms move fast (which she did, but I didn't think 8 months out), and that she would email the sales guy. I got a phone call later from the sales guy saying that we still had the 10 rooms that we asked for and that we can give him the contract any time (I will fax it ASAP). And he apologized for the mix up. I guess he wasn't looking very hard.I have learned my lesson from this incident: I will have to do the work myself if I want it done right.(And I'm not mad at FI anymore). Thanks Ladies!!

I am so happy things worked out for you.  And take my advise.  No hard feelings to men we love.  I just rather have everything done and done right!
