I would just do a variety of appetisers after the ceremony with cocktail hour and have a desert buffet later on. What time is your ceremony?

Yeah you can totally get away with appetisers and desert. Any earlier I would think about dinner. I think you could even just do a desert buffet if you wanted. People will eat before hand so they shouldn't be too hungry. With food stations I would think it would be too much like a meal. I would just do passed appetisers.

Ditto Kare - I'd do tray passed apps and dessert buffet. For apps, I'd so something with a bit more sustenance than just meat/cheese and fruit trays, maybe like chicken skewers, crositini with an array of toppings, etc, but a fruit tray would be nice with the dessert buffet, IMO.

With 8 p.m., I'd think most guests would have eaten dinner. I agree with PPs about having more substantial appetizers (meat skewers, spinach pies, pot stickers, etc, etc) and a dessert buffet.

Variation ditto - I'm all budget minded so I would just do apps set out buffet style. Definitely just do apps and dessert. Make the apps a little more sustaining/filling.

I would do a variety of tray passed apps (3-4 types, some veggie, some meat) and a display of some type (veggies, fruits, and maybe a variety of tapenades and breads), and then a dessert buffet.
