Photography Budget

For those planning: How much did you allocate to photography? For those married: How much did you end up spending on photo graphy and are you happy with your photos?I have no clue how much to set aside  for photography, I know it depends on your budget but I'd like to know about how much you spent.

What I am doing is  price comparison. On my local board, I look at some  of the married girls reviews for photographers, check out they're packages and what it all includes. Then I check out other photographers in my area, from wedding websites like The Knot, Wedding Channel and etc, and that's how I came up with my budget. The average price, and the most I will pay in my area is 1500.

Thats what I was thinking Mahogonie.  I read that it should be 10% of your budget and I couldnt see us spending more than that on photography and that amount wouldnt kill me either. I havent compared in my area yet...im afraid to lol

I'm not paying more than $1K for mine.  I went to my local board and got a few recs from them--one place was a MINIMUM of $3500 and that was too much.  I've narrowed it down to two, and both are within that price range.

I am spending $1000 but this includes the engagement pics as well. I set aside on a smaller amount because I really want video of the wedding and reception.

We are setting aside $2400 for the Photographer. That is less than 10% of our budget.

For those planning: How much did you allocate to photography? We initally allocated 2k for pics, however after meeting with lower end photogs, determining the style of pics we wanted we increased our budget to 3k, we went a little over at 3500 including epics but its for the photog we want, feel comfortable with, and feel we get the best quality and bang for our buck. Good luck I agnoized for months over a photog.

I agree with checking with your local board. Prices differ around the country. I love pictures and was willing to pay a little more to ensure I would get a great product. Plus, my photographer came highly recommended. I'm around $2000.

10% of your budget is I think standard.  Our photographer is $2000.

I shopped around and compared prices before I decided on a photographer. Total I spent on my pictures was $275.00 which included e-pics on cd with rights to print, she ended up staying almost 8 hours, digital editing, 1 8x10, 10 5x7 and I got 50 4x6 that she printed for me I also got a CD with all my images and rights to print a week after the wedding (I was amazed)!! I love my pictures! She did a wonderful job plus more and would not have went with anyone else!

I'd planned for $500-$700. But found a someone who was a part-time photog. We did engagement photos with her and loved her style. Now, I'll end up paying half of what I'd planned. Bonus: Since she's trying to build up her portfolio, I know she'll give 110%!

Well we didn't have a budget. I bought everything I liked within reason to us. We spent 1200 on photog that included an engagement session and 6 hrs at the wedding. Also 4 prints blown up to 16x20 for the wedding decor and 2 disk with every picture taken and a photo album. In my town prices range but it is possible to find a nice photog for a good price. I love our pictures and the vibe I had with my photog. Now we plan to take pregnancy pictures with her and baby pictures and family pictures once the baby gets here.

I budgeted 1500, but the photography I'm wanting is actually 1100 including epics, $400 product credit, some albums, and other stuff.

We're spending $2200. That includes epics, unlimited hours and locations the day of the wedding, reproduction rights, all hi-res images on disk, and an album

Our engagement session is only $250. We just decided that we would choose a package once we get to the resort, but probably no more than $1K. Since I saw dst10spr97's video, I am trying to convince him that we need it LOL!
