Tailor Help

So I decided on my dress this weekend.  My mom is going to be ordering it in the next couple weeks, and then from there it takes 8-12 weeks to come in.  After that, David's Bridal is going to need 6-8 weeks for all of the alterations that they are doing.  They are moving a couple of the pick-ups in the skirt, changing it from a zip back to a corset back, adding a sash and tucking it into the pick-ups in the back, and sewing in two brooches.  Then comes the tough part because DB will not change anything on a dress that they cannot change back.  So it is a halter top and I want to have the top opened up, the straps thinned out, and the V cut lower.  DB can't do that, so I have to take it elsewhere.  Does anyone have a good tailor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg in the South Sound (tacoma/Puyallup) area that they would trust for this type of thing?  I'm worried I won't find anyone...

In my experience, DB nickels and dimes you. I wouldn't get any alterations by them and take it to a tailor who will do EVERYTHING for you. A friend of mine got married a at the end of july and her bustle broke while the MOH was doing it. They also told her they needed to take the dress in because it was too big but she had a corset and when she turned aroudn the corset wasn't tight at all. They seem like scammers. Other than that I don't have a tailor rec for you. :0)

Debra Hedeen is in Ballard and is the alterations person the Seattle folks usually recommend.  A friend of mine in Tacoma got her dress altered in town and she was going to give me the name of her person so I can use her as well.  When I get it, I can share it, also.

I left my dress in the very capable hands of Elizabeth's Bridal Alterations. She is located on the North end of Tacoma, and I thought she was very reasonably priced, my dress has a difficult fabric overlay and my dress needs to be taken in in the bust area, plus a bustle added. Altogether my grand total was only $200. (A small price to pay for a good tailor!) She is super nice, I found her on google and she had all 5 star reviews. I highly recommend her. :)

I used Fashion Fittings in Fircrest (253-565-6636) as I was very happy with the results. I had quite a bit of work done and the pricing was SO reasonable for the quality of work. I had the necline converted to a deep sweetheart from a smile neckline, taken in at the bust, let out at the hips, tulling sewn in and a 14 point french bustle sewn in. It was around $220 for everything. They came highly recommended to me by The Wedding Bell in Tacoma, where I bought my dress.
