African American Weddings

Hey Ladies!! and I need some help!

Hey Ladies!!! I haven't been on in forever and I can't believe I've been married almost a year! I hope everyone is doing well. Since the wedding,  I had so many people ask me to help them with events so I've kinda taken on a side hustle doing baby showers, engagements parties, etc, etc and its really staring to take off. I'm kind of stuck on this one, so I knew the perfect place to come for opinions! I'm doing a Sweet Sixteen party for my little cousin. Her name is "London" so of course the first thing that came to my mind was a London themed party. British flags, Big Ben, London Bridge, Double Decker Buses and so on. I even found a cool idea for a cake. My question is, do you think its kinda corny and cheesy? I mean if Paris Hilton had a Paris themed party with Eiffel Towers and such wouldn't it be kind of expected and come across cheesy? Here's a picture of the cake I found. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks!

HEY STRANGER!!! I am no help on the cheesy factor. I'm just wondering does your cousin like London? Does she have any ideas? Or is it all a surprise for her?

And CONGRATS on the side hustle! We all seem to need them these days!

I think a London-themed party is great idea. Very creative. I would just recommend not using all things that pertain to London (British flags, London Bridge, etc.) It may kinda look chaotic in one setting. Selecting one or two things to incorporate may be fine.

As pp said, I would ask your cousin how she would feel about having that theme. If its a surprise, then go for it!

Ditto.  Teens can be so picky these days.  Ask her about what she wants.  Remember, how you felt when doing your wedding.. A sweet sixteen party can mean just as much.

Thanks girls. I'll ask her what she thinks about it. She's one of those " I don't care, do whatever you want types" I think she's just excited to party with her friends!

On a sidenote: Hey Tyboyd!!!! You were a gorgeous bride!

I think th eidea in itself is brilliant. However you overdo it and make it somewhat chessy. So I suggest picking a select few refined things to tie it together. I think that cake is great (without the topper). If you have a photographer coming use a London backdrop for instant printable photos. You can also use props. A more expensive alternative is a photo booth with paper London themed frames. Teenagers love looking at themselves.

Whatever you do, do the theme in touches.  Complete overall is cheesy.  I like the cake though.

I like the theme but I agree with the PPs I think the cake is cute but if there are some things she's into or reflect her I think you should include them. Since her name is London maybe focusing on the fashion (cool hats, etc) or on popular travel destiation themes with the last most fab stop being London could also be cool! Good luck!
