My brother won't be at my wedding

And I am so sad. We found out Monday that he is being deployed to Iraq or Afganistan in January for at least 18 months. My wedding is in June of next year so we are almost sure he won't be able to make it. My wedding colors are yellow and shades of gray. I know that yellow is the ribbon color for the miltary. I was thinkng about having yellow ribbons to give out, but I didn't want it to seem cheesy. Is there anything else I can do to honor my brother on my special day. TIA.

I've seen several people Skype the ceremony. Do you think you'd be able to do that?

Are you using programs or fans or anything? Instead of giving out yellow ribbons, why don't you roll program and tie them with a yellow ribbon and maybe put a short expalnation in the program. Something like: "Your program was tied with a yellow ribbon in honor of JustMe4E's brother, who is serving overseas. We wish he could be here to celebrate with us today"

I'm sorry to hear that, I will definitely keep him in my prayers. I like the ribbon idea.... What about making a donation to walter reed, video montage at the reception with pics of you and your brother, find a way to use the ribbon as a place card holder, have guest wave the yellow ribbon streamer when you and FI exit the church? As pp said put a small note on the program.

Can you have a videographer video your wedding as well (in addition to skype?) that way you can have your memories and can give them to your brother when he comes back?

I am sorry to hear this and will keep your brother in prayer. Please extend to him my appreciation for the sacrifices that he's making for our country. I think the pps had lots of great ideas. Please let us know what you decide on.

i'm sorry that your brother won't be there! The skype idea is great and You can always send him a video.  and I don't think the yellow ribbons are a bad idea. add them to the menus in the corner or to the programs or something like that.

Thanks ladies for the ideas.  I have never used Skype before, but I'm sure it can't be that hard. I love the slideshow idea and I will get those ribbons in there some kind ofway.  Thanks again for all your help.  Keep the ideas coming.
